oldhens, I'm sorry about your recent losses. I'd look like Elmer Fudd, out there hunting for wascally predators. Good news about the chicks.

My husband is on the case. I will keep you guys updated. I cannot do nothing about it myself, especially with my recent revision on my one shoulder replacement. I couldn't shoot a gun even if I wanted to, which I don't want to. Good thing my husband likes to hunt.

Speaking of hunting.... the latest next to my pasture fence, just to the right of the gate (outside in the pasture, not on this side)....scat, three piles of it. I was thinking raccoon after seeing all those hanging around the last few days, but it's too large, then I thought coyote, but why three piles in a row, then someone said it looked like bear scat. BEAR! Again? Remember the bear on my game camera was to the left of the gate, this is on the right.
The piles, center pile is about 4x6, then a closeup of what's inside the center pile. Is that acorns? Can't be with all them rotten now. Big seeds? Persimmon seeds are not that round and thick, right?

Florida held a legal bear hunt last year, and ended it on the second day. Animal activists went berserk. It was not due to the activists that the hunt ended, but the quota number of bears they wanted thinned out, was accomplished in 2 days.

The hen was found dead along the fence, when it could not drag her out through the fence it ate her head off and left the carcass.

I thought about that with the acorns. A stash would be in better condition that those scattered on the ground.

Thanks, again we had a camera error, husband didn't put the SD card fully. I saw a hawk sitting in a tree in the yard but couldn't identify it. No more deaths for now.

They have Tucker Milling feeds up in North Florida, but not down here. The man that I bought my stock from, uses Tucker Milling feeds, and I've been wishing for years that they would expand down here, but they haven't. They put out an excellent feed.
