The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

What I will most likely do is sell the Janome Horizon 7700. I would have to drive over an hour to drop it off to be serviced, though there is a Janome dealer about 15 miles from me. The repair guy retired or something. And it's way more machine than I need. I just re-set up my Brother PQ1500s which is a mechanical high speed machine. It has a good size throat, 9" (the Horizon's is 11", but not as high) and tension is manual. But, I can buy a brand new one for less than a used 7700 if I had to. Also, the same machine is sold under Juki, BabyLock and other names, just higher priced than Brother. I made a lot of stuff on that Brother.

Hope everyone is coping.

I had a hen found dead like she died off the perch. Healthy, shiny , , I just don't why. That was 2 weeks ago. I find another chicken dead. No idea why. So she got a good funeral and a prayer. So 2 within weeks of eachother. In different pens , different chickens, and different areas of the coop. I guess she could have been a bit heavy maybe. Or pale. Maybe. I just don't know.

How are you all doing with the quarantine? I'm a home body so it's not much different, LOL

Thanks. I hope some family naysayers will watch that. A nephew who has criticized me asked me for hens. When I said I didn't sell adult hens, he asked for hatching eggs. I said I didn't have enough to sell anyone and eat, too, but I suggested a video to watch before he got anything at all. He's on my crap list anyway. Better watch himself.

I'm going to shut it down at least as Blue Roo Quilts. I may change the page up to more go with my Youtube channel subjects, the name and the content, but I am going to "quilt out" some of my fabrics and I plan to sell at least one of my machines. I have lost interest in doing it anymore after over 30 years. I just don't have it in me when there are other things more pressing.

I know what it feels like losing interest in something. I rode horses for over 30 years and I have lost my interest. I feel guilty about it.

We're doing well. I'm better than Tom since I really don't even like to leave the property anyway. I ordered some Madagascar Grade B vanilla beans to make vanilla as well as some personal fine mist spray bottles to make hand sanitizer for my purse. A woman I follow on YouTube makes her vanilla with Everclear Grain alcohol 151 proof (wow, nothing will live through that!) and when she ran out of her regular hand sanitizer, she just put it in the little bottles. So, she has vanilla scented sanitizer and strong vanilla at that! You could spritz that in your mouth, too, I guess, LOL. I'd probably choke, but germs would die a horrible death!

I do have aloe vera juice to make mine with (could not find gel around here, though I have some with lidocaine in it) as well as Everclear, may mix those two and add some essential oils for scent, but we rarely leave this place. I have a solution of Virkon-S that I spray packages with. My poor Virkon concentrate tablets all mused together even though I put the container in a ziplock bag, but moisture got to it anyway, so I use a spoon and estimate a tablet's worth. Probably super strong! Having had chickens, I already have Oxine and Virkon.

Started some seeds, planted potatoes in the compost pile, some kale plants in the garden, plus I started a different kale type from seed as well as lettuce-leaf basil. We have a lot of other seeds we'll direct sow in a week or two.

You can't go wrong with Virkon. It's the stuff some use in chicken houses and other livestock. I think it's also got some porous qualities. Like treating plywood. I spray the whole coop after cleaning shavings out and just drench the coop with a sprayer. Then wait to y tub has lasted 8 yrs so far.

Just came in from having a glass of watered down wine with my boys and ladies. Well until Fern had to near empty the bit I had in a glass. What a lush! So there went the clean glass. Clarisse #2 got a funeral and a prayer. :hit Like you all know already the myth about threes. I am ordering a styro cooler and ice packs to have on hand. If I don't know what killed them I will send them off. Like Valerie I sent her off because I didn't know and she was positive for mega aspergillosis that spread from her lungs to her heart. And she was my #2 who chose to sleep out in the pen every night.

So the next one unknown death will go to a lab. I believe the Florida animal disease lab will take out of state. And you can print out a label and they will bill you for the shipping expense. I like them because they test for everything for about $25.00 plus the shipping if you use the UPS label. They also have called me in the past if something was unusual (rare liver disease}. I do this for my flock to get some idea what's going on with them or preventative.

I hope no one else is having problems. I know Cynthia went thru a internal egg laying problem.

It's 70;s here today and looks like it for next week. I need to get my raised boxes up and order Gardener's blend from the Gravel and mulch store. The ground here is way too hard to dig thru, mostly clay. No one in their right mind would think of doing it themselves. Florida was easy to get a nice deep hole.

Any thoughts on New Orleans style tomb above the ground???

Just keep in mind if you guys make your own hand sanitizer, it should be 60% alcohol when finished. I made some up with 91% alcohol and Aloe gel, with a drop of Peppermint oil, works great, smells good and easier on the hands than the store bought.

I don't bury my birds, instead I walk them to the back of the property and leave them out for the wild critters. I'm sorry to hear about your birds!

Yep on the sanitizer and occasionally on the leaving them for wild critters as well. Hard to do that with some.

My son says oh joy. This is where both my sons live now, but everyone should have already been doing that, pretty much. This just makes it an official order.

Well, seems we have our first confirmed case of CV in this county. We're staying home, even though next Wednesday is payday and we'd normally go out for a big grocery trip. I have chicken feed for a few months, I do believe, especially if they get a lot of range time, though if Brandy goes broody and I allow her eggs to hatch because I cannot break her, I would need some chick starter.

Weird note. The downstairs toilet is acting oddly, though it was only used when Chris was here. We rarely ever use that one--it's an odd one that looks like maybe some European model, probably uses 5 gal per flush. Need to replace that thing. Not sure what the issue is after having a $3000 bill for replacing inlets and snaking out the lines from tank to the house and the other direction. I hope to God it is not in need of a new field. That would be a real bummer and another few thou spent.
