I think dehydrating them into pear chips would be good. Maybe with some sugar and warming spices sprinkled over them?

Off topic, I also got to hear one of my pullet’s do her egg song for the first time!

We always canned them peeled and halved in light syrup, just like peaches.

But, look how easy it is to peel w/o wasting a lot of "meat" of the pears! Will let you know if it works as well on mine.

Mrs. Deer vaulted over the high fence night b4 last and was eating the tops of the sweet potato plants. Time to dig anyway. So, they're curing before storage in peat moss in the basement.

I was debating digging mine up here. I'm curious as what I got. How do you cure them? The internet says 80's degrees and 90% humidity which I can't do. I was just gonna stick them in the basement. Do they need sun curing? Or are they supposed to stay out of the sun?

That's just how I do tomatoes, except I have an old deep pot for the water, and a wire basket for the fruit - both came from my Mom so probably 60 years old or more. Put a few tomatoes in the basket, boiling water for 15 seconds, then into the dishpan in the sink filled with cold water.

Just a shady, warm place, warmest you have, for about a week or so, then you can put them in a tub with holes in peat moss, moistened. That's what I hear, anyway. Mine are on the deck now, gets morning sun. At night we put a damp towel over them and cover them so raccoons and such can't get them.

Deep South Homestead on YT grows a lot of them and they have a lot to say about curing and storing them.

I've got onions and garlic curing on my screened in porch right now. Too wet to dig the potatoes right now, but they are next, then plant garlic.
