The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Got this from my younger son. Said it fell in the opposite direction of his apt, but guess we both got stung a bit. Thankfully, he doesn't have to clean his up.

Ugh, down trees. Always a mess here. We have had high winds the past 24 hours or so. I dread going to see our back pasture. There are dead ash trees (thanks emerald ash borer) all along the back fence line, belonging to our neighbor. One big one already fell and busted our fence, wooden post and all. I'm sure there will be more down. More firewood for at home, I suppose. *Technically* not our job to clean it up, but I am certain nothing would be done about it if we didn't do it ourselves. And no one cares more about our stuff than us. We tried to contact them once when we put up the fence line, just being good neighbors and making sure we were all in agreement on the property line. No response to a letter put in their mailbox. We already found the pins, ran a line, and made sure we were driving posts on our property.
We have dead ash trees all over here, all having died within the last 3 years. So sad. Most are along fence lines/property lines.
Hope you're able to get yours all cleaned up and fixed!

Thanks to the Emerald Ash Borer, we will likely loose all our ash trees as well. We don't have a huge number of them this far north, but we have an even worse problem - a fungal infection called Beech Snap. My property has many Beech trees, and they are dying off right and left. The disease causes them to break off about 10 feet above ground, you can imaging how much damage a fully grown Beech tree can do when it falls like that. Really sad!

Sorry I’ve been quiet. Work is getting, well, stressful is a good way to put it. I’m glad y’all are ok tho. I don’t miss hurricanes at all and I especially don’t miss the cleanup. We had a small snowstorm here so we had tons of downed limbs. I think we had worse cleanup than you Cynthia!
