The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Checking in with my Atlas thread friends. I got a bug the first week of December, had a mild fever part of one day, then it seemed to be getting better. Dry throat at first, didn't feel at all sick, then I sounded like Lurch for a week. Then, the coughing began and I mean the "can't catch your breath-choke at the end-then sneeze" type cough. I've done herbal extracts and tinctures and teas, downed cold & flu gel caps until I look like one, antihistamines, Mucinex 12 hr tablets, homemade cough syrup made by my husband of raw honey, lemon and vodka, vaporizer with essential oils to sanitize the air, etc, etc. It's still here and my ribs high up on my right side feel bruised/broken from coughing and I've lost so much sleep even if I'm physically in bed for 7 hours that I feel drained. I can't even finish quilting my quilt I was in the middle of when this started because it's fairly large and a physical task that requires pushing and pulling it through the machine, which is painful because of the ribs, not to mention you can't control your movements while hacking your lungs out. Never had anything like this that I can remember. It's darn inconvenient!

It's been weird because I was sick last December with something different after a family dinner, and before that, it was about 20 years since I had contracted anything. Tom is also exhausted, coughing but not as much as I am. I haven't even seen anyone over the holidays so he must have brought the germ back from Walmart or his doctor's office. Still, we have to drag ourselves out to the barn to take care of the feathered horde. And it's been super cold here for January at our location, got almost 5" snow a few days ago and now, it's just frozen in places and muddy in others. I have a dr appt in 8 days for something different, just a lab results test deal; it was supposed to be this past Tuesday, but they postponed it or I'd have asked about this crud I can't shake.

I am excited to get hatching eggs next month, though. Old Bash, Brandy and his daughter, Cora, are still with us as are Atlas's two daughters, Zara and Athena, all the oldsters, though Jill and her daughter, Maddie, are technically old now as well. I wonder if Bash will make it to 9 years old like Atlas did. Hope you are all doing well!

It is a bad year for viruses. I just got over something similar, and was also sick a few weeks bad. The coughing was horrible, and still lingers a bit. Glad you are doing better Cynthia. I'm hoping I have reached my virus quota for the year.

What this most resembled was Walking Pneumonia, but that usually is in people under 40 and I am way over that. Who knows? Whatever it is/was, it's a monster! I'm glad you're doing better now, too.
That's funny. That occurred to me as well. It got pretty bad there for a bit. I haven't been sick like that in a long time. Now that the holidays are over hopefully the germ sharing is over.

Oh my goodness, that sounds awful! I'm a subscriber to your Youtube channel and figured you hadn't posted in a while because were taking some time off and relaxing over the holidays.

Doing chicken chores when you're sick is so hard. I'll send some prayers up for you. I hope you feel better soon! 🙏 ❤️

Oh, hi, Emma! Thank you for supporting the channel. Yes, i've been under the weather for over a month and not at all happy about it. But, chickens have to be cared for so we can't shirk that duty. Thank you so much for commenting on the Atlas thread and following the channel. I miss it and want to get back to it soon. 😊

Glad to see you back! How are you? Appreciate the suggestion. We were all vax'd for whooping cough as kids, though I know that because of certain situations in our country, some mostly eradicated diseases are on the rise. I've vaporized for weeks already with Thieves Oil (combination of essential oils known to be anti-bacterial), even added a tiny bit of Oxine to the water, used Mary Ruth's Respiratory Health drops for while that contains some of the same herbs in my own tea mix. I've consumed teas and tinctures with mullein, asragalus root, marshmallow root and quite af few other dried herbs in my Immuni-Tea mix I make. Trust me, I have hit this from all sides. I've never had anything like it, Robin. I wake up every morning nauseous and tired from all the interrupted sleep and I want this gone before spring so I can enjoy the season. :barnie

Wow, you are really hitting it with everythig! Maybe you need an antibiotic prescribed. Even if you were vaccinated as a child (as we all were back in the day!) your old(er) body kind of loses it's immunity ability. A year ago, my husband and I had the same symptoms and we coughed so hard we were gasping and "whooping". I'm sure we had whooping cough. Keep at it with the treatments and hopefully the spring sun will come soon and bake it out of you!! Try not to breathe in chicken dust! :)
❤️
