The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

I avoid mushroom identification, just too tricky for me.
There very likely could be some decaying plant matter in that crevice that doesn't necessarily affect the health of the tree
I hope it's an innocuous mushroom growth. That tree would cost more than others to take down in a controlled manner, but I have a guy I trust to do it, if it comes to that.

I'm seeing more mushrooms this year, some at the base of trees that we know aren't in the best shape, but are still strong.

Is it possible to hire someone to take it safely down for you Cynthia?
Yes, I have a guy who does a great job. He sure has padded his wallet with our $$ since last October, LOL. He took down probably 15 trees, all oaks, some that were hanging over our house. He's reasonable as tree guys go and I know he knows what he's doing. This one is going to be more, I think, because of the difficulty in getting back there to it. We will at least have Justin come out to see if he thinks it's diseased and what he thinks about the removal.

Sharing my last roses of the season, a variety called Quicksilver. My younger son back in the 'burbs brought this and a different variety up to me, a gift from his neighbor. They are becoming well-established and this was such a blessing. I had to cut them to bring them indoors so I could see them every time I pass through the great room and enjoy them until they faded. They smell heavenly. My camera can't do the color justice, a stunning silvery lavender.

I stopped writing on my novel for the night at 49,781 words. There is four months of story left to get through and my original minimum goal was 50K. I'll be at least several thousand over that. No, it is not a story told from a chicken's point of view, sorry to disappoint you! :p
My son is a 3x author and he's currently working on his own next fantasy novel. Every night we tell each other the where our word counts are at the end of the day. I never thought we'd be doing that, LOL.
