At roost time, which is 5 p.m. in winter, the sun was shining and it was almost warm, but I don't look forward to my 4 a.m. wake-up time. This is one time I wish we had no stairs to climb to get onto the deck and into the house. Even the cargo lift will be slick and the motor may balk at 7*. We can't avoid it so we'll just go through it, one day at a time.

My chickens have about eight more days before I can let them out if the forecast is accurate. It's a good thing I had my husband buy a few more bags of shavings the other day. None of them have ever experienced this kind of cold. Angus is going to be bouncing off the walls without exercise.
Today's high is 28*, low 7*. All of N. GA is stressed out over it. My son's school system is closed today. My son was off yesterday when his employer canceled the shift due to weather, but they want him there today. He says he isn't going to risk it because his driveway and entire neighborhood has an inch of ice on the roads, He needs that $$, too, but some things aren't worth the risk. This is Amazon, so they really don't much care. Every human automaton is replaceable.

That's hilarious. My little alarm clock called Murphy, crawls up from under the covers between 8:30 and 9, and starts to stick her tongue in my mouth. If I hit the snooze button by pulling the covers over my head, she knows it's only a matter of time before I need air.

My two ginormous cats start staring at me after my alarm goes off, you can feel them through the covers.

I got up to 14° today so I opened the pop door and threw a little straw and some scratch out. They all seemed very happy to get outside and scratch around for a little while. Felt like a heatwave!

Knowing where you live, I bet it felt warm! It only got up to 23* today, will be 7* tonight, they say, but upper 30's tomorrow. I see a couple more single digits in the next week or so, but once it hits mid-February, we get 50's again...if I can survive until then!

It's 5:29 a.m. and it's 6*. I always forget that the forecast is for in town and we are about 400 ft higher in elevation than that. It will likely drop to 5* before it begins to go back up. I hope my birds are okay. Worst temps these have ever experienced. I have one pair of thick polar socks and those aren't going in the wash this week, LOL. If this is going to be the pattern, I need more.
The forecast is only getting worse for us. The last day of January is now predicted to be 19* for the high and 4* for the low. Feels more like Ohio than GA, but no, Ohio was much worse. -25* real temp with wind chills -40* is definitely worse.
