If winters like this continue, I'll have to buy something new. I have no decent coats; all mine are 40 years old. I have sweaters and jackets and canvas sherpa-lined vests, but no coats I feel are truly warm....except my husband's arctic parkas from his Air Force career. They are huge and very heavy, though. swallow me whole. This is our upcoming weather. Snow on Saturday. The screenshot cut it off, but today's high is 40, tomorrow 46 and some rain, then snow and 20-something Saturday and this mess below. If we get the three inches they predict for us, it will be more than we've had in years. I hate snow. Makes the worst mess afterward. I know this sounds like nothing to you folks over there on that side of the north country, but been there, done that, never going back. That said, you'll never see me in Florida. I'd roast. I hope it does. It was -14 this morning, and right now still at our high of 3°. Ridiculous.

The forecast keeps changing. I think they go back and forth until the moment arrives, then one of the weather folks go outside and run to their desk to change the forecast. It's almost like they should do a "the forecast was supposed to be this, but in reality, it did this" instead of the guessing that never hits quite right.

Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 6 inches with locally higher amounts possible. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
Dangerously cold wind chills ranging from as cold as 15 degrees below in the north Georgia mountains to the single digits above zero in central Georgia

This means that it will either be a dusting or 7" here at my house.

They seem unable to forecast weather like they used to do before all the computers made it easier for them. Hopefully it won't be too bad Cynthia. That doesn't sound good for you guys. Stay warm.

Thank you, Lisa. The spot our house sits on is as small mountain surrounded by taller ones, about 400 ft taller than we are. Those are on three sides and usually, we are shielded from the worst of things. All water runs downhill away from the house so no flooding, either. I'm hoping the power stays on during this one because those temps and wind chills will really stress my older hens.

Unfortunately if a storm changes direction even the smallest amount, just a few degrees, it can make all the difference in the world along the front line were you have warmer and colder air interacting. I'm not surprised they can't pinpoint an exact forecast for one specific spot. I do think they're forecasts overall for a general area are pretty good.

But I wish they would just forecast warmer weather!

I'm with ya there, sista! To me, seasons seem to have shifted, like the earth's axis is skewed a minuscule fraction. But what do I know? I just need to stay warm and eat and provide those things for my chickens and cat as much as possible.
