From the look of it I have to guess that Mary our Ameraucana is the winner. But....he comb and wattles aren't really red like several others are. So it may still be a mystery.

It's kinda small but that's typical of firsts. Eeeek!!

This is our first egg. It was received with much joy.
Before this they had been laying in the corner of the ramp to the roosting bars at the ceiling. Then they'd get knocked off and fall about 5 feet. So, I started to check every couple of hours, and I found one before it broke. Since then they've been mostly using the nest boxes.

I see people post questions about when their hens should start laying. I think it would be nice if we share the first egg, the kind of chicken and the age. With pictures if we would like.
I just found my first egg!
It is from my Buff O., she turned 5mos old two days ago, and has been "Squatting" for about a month.

My Buff O. spent some "practice" time inside two of the 3 nesting boxes this past few days, I thought for sure that's where I was gonna find the first egg, instead she dropped it right in front of the entrance door! I took the golf balls out of the boxes, thought maybe that was the problem, now I'm hoping she starts laying in the nests

Another thing..am I suppose to wash the egg?

Congratulations. It is so much fun when our hens start laying. I wash all of my eggs.

Our fresh eggs are the best tasting and looking eggs. I hope that you enjoyed your egg and I'm glad that the hens are laying in the nest box now. :)

Well, waiting now for egg 2 or someone new to start laying. The first egg find was so eggciting! But I need more! Lol

I try to let them out to free range a bit each day. This evening they were so happy and playful. It did me some good to watch them.
