Dang but it's tempting to help!

I'm a nervous wreck.

Still only two out. One has pipped and the others are just laying there. One of the standards shouldn't hatch until tomorrow and one of the banties should hatch the day after. But that leaves two banty eggs that should hatch today. Arggg!!!

Awww, she looks like such a sweet mama hen. That beak looks really sharp, though; I'm not sure I'd stick my hand under her to check for more chicks without a protective leather glove!

Awwww... Fifi is a good girl. She's let me mess with her all day. Every now and then she gently taps me on the back of the hand as if to say "Alright now... that's enough." It's not a hard tap though. She's a sweetie!

Where does one learn about white silkies, and can I order day-olds? I don't have chickies yet, still researching what to get this spring.

I can't find much info on them, maybe I should start a new thread and not steal this one?

Oh they are just adorable! I can't wait for my silkies to hatch some eggs for me someday!

Ihowemt- if you do a search on BYC (look in the top right corner) for silkies you will find bookoodles of information! There are tons others on here who know a lot more than I know. I totally got them because they look so cool and cute! From my personal experience, they were kinda flighty chicks, funny but skittish. Fifi has really calmed down since she started laying. They are very determined broodies though.
I got mine through Mypetchicken because I wanted them to be girls. MPC is about the only place that will sex banties.

Update on the chicks- Number three is still just pipped. It's still breathing so I guess it's okay. One of the banties has started to pip. It's cracked but no hole yet. I've locked them all in for the night so I guess I'll have to wait until morning to see what happens.

So this morning I found three sweet little yellow chicks and one brown/grey tee-tiny chick (gotta be a mille fleur). That means that both of the pipped eggs hatched last night. There are three eggs left- a banty that should have hatched yesterday, a standard that should hatch today and another banty that should hatch tomorrow. I can't tell if anything else has pipped. It's dark in there and now there are four chicks in the way.

I can't believe how tiny they are on day one and how fast they grow. The original chicks are already visibly bigger than the new ones.

Four of the seven are out! Can you see them all peeking out?

You can see the tiny little mille fleur in this one.

Two are pretty yellow and one is more buff. Who know what they'll turn into.

There are three eggs left and they were kind of cool when I touched them last. None had obvious pips. Fifi may have given up on them. Dunno. We'll see what happens today.
