Thanks, Resolution. It takes a while to figure all this out, especially because I am fairly new to all this. The nuances of nutrition are the hardest to find info on.

Not wanting to bug you, but do you have any suggestions for good books that offer nutritional information on chickens?

Bother me? Ha! I can't say as I know of any great books on nutrition- not that are readily accessible- in the mind frame - I mean they read like college text books. I have to get my information from an advisory of zootritionists. The term zoo here does not necessarily mean zoo- its zoological- a zoologist that focuses on nutrition of a very wide range of organisms from brine shrimp to elephants...

Please clarify this for me---I am reading a post on soy-free eggs and, if I understand this correctly, Ultra kibble is recommended. I looked this up and this was the ingredient list:

INGREDIENTS: Corn gluten meal, corn, soybean meal, linseed meal, catfish meal, dicalcium phosphate, crab meal, yeast culture, dried vegetables (dehydrated beet pulp, dehydrated celery pulp, dehydrated water cress pulp, dehydrated spinach pulp, dehydrated carrot pulp, dehydrated lettuce pulp), HMS vitamin pre-mix, salt (NaCI), choline chloride, fresh ground cinnamon and assorted spices, diatomaceous earth, primalac, lysine, selenium.


The third item is "soybean meal" ?????

Did I misunderstand this? Or is there different products? Can anyone explain?

I just read through the whole thread and got the impression that the Ultra Kibble formula had changed to remove the soy. In a link provided farther back in this thread the ingredients given are:

I googled the name & it was on this link I read the list of items in the feed. I am not that great on internet searches so if I am wrong & this is old sorry but it was what I found.
I am trying to find a better feed for my girls. It is costly to make my own, plus I am not comfortable that I am getting everything they need when I do the mixing.
So I have been reading as much as I can on this site as it's a great wealth of information. I am just trying to learn.

I use Ultra Kibble and none of the bags I've had in the last 7+ months have had any soy products. I think you may have the old product ingredient list?

I suspect that online store has been selling the product for a while and never updated the ingredient list when the formula changed. I just bought a bag of it yesterday and it has no soy products.

It's interesting stuff. It's very light and I wonder if it's made the same way as human breakfast cereals are, as that's kind of what it reminds me of.

Thanks to everyone. I will order it from the link suggested to be sure the other place is not selling an older product with soy. It is always a learning process for me since I started keeping chickens. I don't know what I'd do without this website---you all are the best!
