"No, we could not." Dread said blatantly, "It pains me to say this, but Avalon's guard is sorely lacking. We have had no reason to keep an army, no enemy to keep us sharp. No matter what comes of this terrible situation, we must work on this point."
Frill gave her wings a few test beats, still padding along at a decent pace. They felt stable enough, the pain had dulled and she was just so close now.
She had to be in Avalon, now just to Pelendava. She rose shakily into the air, wings almost buckling at first. Oh, please let there be a patrol... Someone, anyone.
(Awww, *pats Quinn and pulls out ducktape*)
"Well we do now..." Samuel nodded, if he didn't agree with them on who had done it, he did agree that they needed a stronger guard. That much was obvious.

"Even the warriors are pretty rusty." Amatis flexed her shoulders as if testing their strength, she didn't seem pleased. "We would need to re-train everyone, and speed up the training of the learners."

"Thats hard to do unless we have young dragons actually wanting to be warriors in the first place." Stephan pointed out. "The number of younglings becoming learners has been declining in the past few years."

"That needs to change, we might not be at war right now but we could very well be in the next few months." Camilla said.

(hmm, I could bring in a dragon from Pelendava... ooor Belial :p)

Dread nodded, they were right. There weren't many, if any, learning the way of the warrior anymore. He was not a warrior, had never intended to be, although now, maybe a trade of trades? He frowned, continuing to listen.

(Anyone free? Ah, good ole wormy Belial....)

Frill continued forward, flying. With her wings, and stuff. *Flap Flap* :p

"So while we're doing that, what do we do about the attacker? We can't just forget about him or her." Kyra reminded them.

"What can we do?" Stephan said regretfully. "We don't know who it was, we aren't positive about where the came from and even if it was Caronia, we don't know where that is."

"We could use the myth!" Kyra exclaimed, getting excited. "The myth says they fled to Mount Mandalla. Thats not hard to find, its the biggest mountain for hundreds of miles!"

"Thats a myth, not a fact." Amatis pointed out. "It could mean nothing."

"Still--"

"Kyra, I know you want to find out who did this. But we can't right now, the only thing we can do is take another look around the site where the murder occured to see if we can find anything." Camilla inturrupted her.

"Its worth a shot." Samuel agreed. "I'd like to go and help, maybe Maggie could come as well and see if she can sense anything we can't."

(Belial would love to help this damsel in distress! lol)

Hidden in the trees below her, Belial was lounging on the wide branch of a tree. It had been a boring, lazy day and he was getting antzy. In the distance he could hear Frill's wingbeats and thought nothing of it, dragons flew all the time. But as she got closer, he noticed that they sounded laboured and slow... struggling to maintain flight. Curiousity perked at his mind and he lifted his head to watch her, squinting through the thick canopy of leaves to get a glance at this dragon and see if it was worth investigating.

Dread resumed his silence, leaning back and listening to the others as they voiced their opinions.

(I bet  )
Frill glided, slowing dropping in altitude.
She bared her teeth and began to beat her wings again. It was a pattern she called the ailing goose, fly and glide, fly and glide.
Hours? Couldn't be... Things were starting to look familiar again. Wait. Something below her glimmered as she past over. Scales?

"Okay, then it is settled. Samuel will go take another look at the crime scene (

), Dread you can go with too. Get Alistair to show you where it is and take Maggie too. The four of you can see if you can find anything we missed." Camilla instructed. "I am going to gather the mentors and apprentices that aren't going with you guys to discuss a new training program."

Belial watched with growing interest. He had seen her before in Pelendava and the surrounding area but never spoken to her, he didn't even know her name. Noting the general direction that she was coming from he wondered where she had gotten such terrible wounds. Had she come all the way from Caronia? What had she been doing there? And most intriging, if she had been there, how was she alive? As it always did, curiosity got the better of him and he flapped hard to gain altitude quickly. She wasn't flying very fast and it didn't take long for him to catch up to her. Coming in on her right side, slightly higher then her, he put on a concerned expression and exclaimed: "My goodness what happened? Are you alright?"

Dread nodded, rising and heading for the door.
The better part of him would have rather stayed behind, especially with what he had heard about Henry's.... remains. But the rest of him was possessed of a rather morbid curiosity.
Either way, he was ordered there and was determined to find some clue about the identity of the murderer.

Frill's eyes flashed open and she glared at the dragon. He had surprised her, much to her discomfort.
She was concentrating so hard on staying up and keeping her direction straight that all of her other senses were on shut down.
She hadn't seen the dragon before, which threw her, was this a trick? He didn't seem particularly Caronian and now she had to be pretty close top Pelendava, but there was something off about him.
"Who are.... You?" She asked, having to brake between words, ignoring his questions. If he was just an wanderer, or gatherer, he probably wouldn't believe her about Caronia, and if he did....

Samuel followed him, giving his rusty limbs a shake before heading through the door. It had been awhile since he had had to do anything really, he was a retired warrior, and it felt good to be doing something again. Alistair was waiting impatiently by the steps of the High Guard, pacing in small circles. When he seen Dread and Samuel he approached them quickly. "What are we doing? What did you decide?"

Belial mentally kicked himself for startling her, of course she'd be frightened, weary of a strange dragon she did not know. He kept up his concerned expression and said in a gentle, reassuring voice. "They call me Belial, I am but a rogue traveling through Avalon. May I ask your name?" It was a simple, but useful tactic, asking her name. It wasn't as though he really cared what her name was, but perhaps it would reassure her in the sense that he wasn't playing nice simply for information. He was just a rogue who had happened upon her and was concerned for her welfare. He almost laughed out loud.

Bianka hunted within a mile radius of Caronia.
Saphira searched for Ruth, wanting to comfort her.
Compared to the silent stillness of a few hours ago when Camilla had delivered the news, the city was on the brink of panic. Families called for their loved ones and gathered together in small circles as though they thought they would have gone missing in the small time between the end of the meeting and now. Amaria and Mayella were working their way through the crowded streets, murmuring calming words to the civilians and assuring them that they were safe within the city walls. Unlike most of the others, Ruth was sitting alone, wrapped in her own wings like a mother would comfort a child. Occasionally another dragon would walk up to her and murmure some soothing words in her ear, but none stuck around long enough to say more then "I'm so sorry."

"Well, Samuel and I are to review the crime scene with you, and Camilla is talking about a new training program." Dread replied, "Decide?"

"Belial.. I have heard that name somewhere." She breathed, "G'Frillore."
Her back began to sting again, wounds reopening as she pulled the skin taught with her wing beats. She was so tired, she didn't want to talk to this rogue, or anyone for that matter.
"How far... Is Pelendava.. from here..?"
