The Fricken Chicken story!

Kind of thinking my Hera, is a Hercules... Their poofs are coated in watermelon. My melon heads :D

Here is Hera by Iris.

This is Iris. I almost didn't keep her, because she has a straight comb. But she is very cute and sweet. Her comb hasn't change, so I'm leaning towards a pullet. No waddles either!

Hera comb shot. There isn't much growth at all.

My little Clover. She is really cute. Finally getting her beard in. I just love her white spots in her belly.

Lilly is an exceptionally cute cochin and duccle cross!

This girl makes me giggle, the breeder she come from had a mix group of chicks. Langshan, LF cochin, blue copper marans, and some others too. I know her very well, basically my entire life. We get to talking and sifting through them. I grabbed a blue colored feather footed one we both glanced and thought was a cochin. Well looks like I got a nice Maran pullet instead! I'm happy either way. She is such a beautiful color! I'm a sucher for the blue birds!

I think the most pleasing part of raising chicks for me, is successfully integrating them with my flock! It just warms my heart to see them all together, being one with the group! It's nice to see the roosters working together too! Although Mr. Gmork, has really been hitting it high with his testosterone :lau

Look at them! Just look at them! They are learning the ropes!

Gmork has taken a liking to the young girls!

Few updates on some chicken we rehomed!🥰
This is one of Falkors offspring, Brazzy from last year! My friend took her last fall. She was hatched from Blondie egg!

This young girl is from my moms flock. The same friend who has Brazzy, has her. She is a sister to my Lilly! Come from black cochin rooster and duccle. She looks like a black colored d'uccle!

The D'uccle rooster here, is my little buddy Scraggle Raggles. He is such a sweet boy, has 14 hens to himself! The other mille fluer D'uccle hen also come from my moms flock!

It's pretty awesome to see the chickens I give to people being cared for, and happy in their own little flocks! I try to make sure the majority of my chicken go to good homes.

So we had this pile of scrap wood, we was just going to toss on the burn pile. Also had a bent up rabbit cage I planned to scrap too. Well I got the bright idea yesterday to build a chick brooder. I mainly wanted to retire my dog cages! Lol So I tore apart the rabbit cage, did some hammering... didnt bother to measure a thing! :lau
Voilà this crude chick brooder is born!

Had some old kitchen cabinet doors, slapped one one for easy access. Forgot I had a piece of hardware cloth, so I tore off my plywood top and very generically slapped it on. It only needs to be cat proof. So it will be sufficient! Lol I wanna say its roughly 40" x 35" x 20" I couldn't find a tape measure, or a regular claw hammer. So I used a 2lb sledge to assemble it all. I swear my husband purposely took all the tools! 🤣🤣🤷‍♀️

Ok enough of my rambling! Y'all have a good day! 😁

that is very impressive. Nicely down. How do you provide heat to your chicks, heat lamp?
