The Fricken Chicken story!

Pics
Speaking of things being ate.. did I mention one of my brahma got taken.. The next day a fox showed up, not sure if he was the culprit, of the missing chicken. But I dropped him in his tracks, cause he was going to take a chicken anyways. Sneaky little thing... but I felt bad shooting him down. I don't get any enjoyment from killing things. I do it because some times I have too.. so instead of just rolling him out back for the buzzards. I stole his beautiful coat and his memory can live on, on top of my mantle. Its been some time since I tanned any hides, alot of work involved, but the end results are always better than expected. Ill post pictures when its done!

Plz post them on this thread. I don't like killing things for fun or for protection, but it you have to then you have to. I would like to see how this turns out because at least your putting the fox to good use.

Some might find this graphic...

Here he is in the beginning process a few days in. The hide was just starting to blue out! I do it the old fashioned way, lots of salt and hard work. I have some old Indian tools, and a couple very round sandstone, I've had for tanning hides for over 10 yrs! My nephew has been helping me. He goes Aunt Megan, how on earth did you manage to keep a rock for that long? I'm a rock hound, I can't help it! 🤷‍♀️😁 It is pretty dry now. I'll give it another day, and really start working it soft. Then I'll probably give it Indian style tanning, to finish it off. Don't mind my slap together stretch boards, I'm just talented in so many ways! 😂😂
