A front porch is supposed to be comfortable! Wherever I live I try to make the front porch cute and very invitingly comfortable. That last place I lived an Asian couple pulled up in the driveway looking for directions to a tourist landmark and after I told them how to get there, they asked if they could have their lunch on my front porch because it was so pretty there. I was tickled!

Just paint and some old, refurbished patio furniture but it must have appealed to them.

Pic of Spike on a refurbished old rocking chair I had picked up with a matching settee alongside the road. I love remaking old and interesting pieces of furniture out of scrap materials...this one was scraps, left over pieces of egg crate foam for a mattress and some guts out of a baby mattress. I'm not very good at sewing or upholstery, but I still do it anyway!

This was the matching settee...with my Ol' Bat of a mother and my youngest chick perched on her lap. And a few eggs he must have smooshed out of her! This was taken about 5 yrs back and we have long since moved from that house, but it still has our hearts captured inside the walls there.




The swing was black when we came there but I had to paint it red...I love a red swing! The trim was black when we came there but I painted it sage green, just to give it a pop.



As you can probably tell, porches mean a lot to me...they are the smile of the house and if your house is a friendly and warm one, the smile should be too!

Great photos! Here are links to the pages at the Dollar Tree website with the plastic coated wire baskets. One choice is round, the other choice is oval. We voted for round. I was wondering how big they were? We have a DT in town and I will look when next I'm in town. I have an egg basket but it's a little too light weight and allows the eggs to roll a little too much in transport.
 
The website says the baskets are about 4.5" to 5" tall, and roughly 8" across (depends on if they are the round or the oval). We chose the round as they are 1/2" taller. My guess is they are very lightweight. I've been using something similar from Dollar Tree to wash eggs ... waste paper baskets that look like they are the same materials. The waste paper baskets are a lot taller and a little wider and I can wash about 5 dozen eggs in each one.

We ordered the case because the baskets aren't in stock right now. I can use the extras for my donation projects ... 12 Egg Butter Cake Kits. :D
 
This is probably way out of date and doesn't work completely, but when I was little, the chicken goddess (my mother's good college friend), cut the bottom off a gallon milk jug. Then, she'd put it upside down and use it to carry eggs in - complete with a handle. she only had about 20 chickens, so it held plenty of eggs.

If you need a scoop for something, find a plastic quart jug, do the same thing. Tie a string on it so it doesn't walk away by itself because it's useful to measure something else.

If you want to wash the eggs, you can place the jug in the sink...

But why would you want to wash the eggs anyway, unless your customer doesn't want dirty eggs? They are much better off left intact because of the anti fungal and bacterial film that gets put on them when they are laid.

That's a tad smaller than I am looking for. I used to have some great egg baskets but sold and gave them all away. Right now I'm using a little apple basket and it's fine but just a little lightweight for my liking..and, of course, I hate to pay money for something so I'll keep my eyes peeled for cheap or free egg likely baskets.

We're going to have to use a couple every day ... and an extra for duck eggs. It's not ideal, but not too bad for a bargain solution. We'll just keep a stack of them out in the coop ... Maybe more convenient than having to remember to take the antique wire egg basket out. It's getting too small anyway. And if the eggs are wet if sometimes leaves rust marks ...
