The Front Porch Swing

Quote: That's really goo, very lifelike. Are you left handed?

I'd like to try some painting again, haven't done that since I was a kid. I used to be pretty good. I can draw pretty realistic animals too, made a nice portrait of our labrador on the couch in pencil, but I've misplaced it. I can't draw or paint anything that anyone would actually find interesting, but it would be a nice hobby.

Here's an idea for inspiration - high contrast chicken themed abstracts. Those would be cool. Not realistic chickens, but sort of going for the shape and idea of a chicken. And with bold colors.

This would be cool to see as a abstracty version.

*Edit* That first phrase was supposed to read 'good'. Not 'goo'. But it's sort of funny, so I'll leave it.

Yeah… countdown is on for my son… First day of school is August 12th. Where did summer go?

:) My little boy is starting kindergarten this year. We got his supplies list in the mail and did most of the shopping this week. Thankfully my dh's mother picked up some long sleeve shirts and pants for him, so that's a huge help with the cool weather clothing. He's so excited to start, helped with the shopping and bag packing, we hope this kind of enthusiasm lasts right through the teen years.

I miss painting. I did a lot of it when the kids were little, but then I discovered quilting - I got the same satisfaction and my house didn't smell like paint thinner and oil paints. Besides, I wasn't all that good at it....I just liked doing it. I hope Katiebug keeps up with her art - that little girl has a ton of talent!

I love the idea of doing abstract chicken paintings! And it would really be fun to mix the mediums.....pastel chalks, acrylics, digital - even color crayons......Now ya got me thinking, and that's NEVER a good idea.

Hello there! we are from Ontario Canada and live in a country setting on a hobby farm.. we love our Tim hortons coffee , so i put on a pot and willing to share " it with all the chicken keeprs"
we love to light fires and play country music outside and just hang out.. every day we have a routine with our chicken barn.. it gets opened in the morning " swept " and the chickens get fed and every afternoon " swept again" more feed to the chickens and a little talk and play time with them and then the barn is closed up at night.

Hello there and welcome. If you're into that sort of thing, I think Blooie keeps a flask of some weird margarita tea around here somewhere.

The title "digital chicken" gives me a sense of inspiration.

Some sort of steampunk mechanical chickenlike thing.

Blooie - have you tried designing your own blocks for your quilts yet?
Back in WI, my sewing group at the quilt shop had a retired Art Teacher in the group and she would bring in a new quilt that she finished each month. One month she brought in a barn quilt that she made for her son. She had been working on it for a year, and every block (24 of them) was design specifically for that quilt, using "texture fabrics" from her stash, and then the pattern burned in the fireplace so it would be a one of a kind quilt. She purchased 2 years of fabric to add to her stash whenever she found a "texture" fabric, which is what she called any fabric with a texture printed on it, for instance she had 18 different fabrics with a brick pattern.

Yep, that would be my giant flask of blue margarita - ala Princess Cruises! Welcome, Tawana! Glad to have a new face here on the Porch. My bucket is the overturned one there with the sign on it that says "Story Laureate of the Front Porch Swing", a designation I have sadly not been living up to. Over yonder is Katee, the superb Percheron, Miss Molly, the gun-shy English Setter, and, um, doggone it, lemme see - nope, name of the other dogs aren't coming to me, sorry but they're there and they're friendly. And we also have a turtle so kindly watch your step. Um, has anyone seen the turtle lately?
