The Front Porch Swing

I wish (there I go again) that I could tell Bee how much I appreciate her having started this thread, I have made several new friends here. This thread, and The Old Folks Home, are my go-to places for socializing with like minded people. When I log on to BYC (which is often) the first subscriptions I check are mine (The Old Folks Home,) and Bee's (The Front Porch Swing!) If any of you talk to her IRL, tell her I said "Thanks!"

Me, too. Wisher. I just discovered The Old Folks Home.

I might just take you up on that.

The reason I think it's a double yolker, is that it's 30% larger than usual.

I'll make up the bed and keep the porch light on

If I remember correctly, the nasty stinging plants start in earnest in late May or early June. But I'll have to check so you don't buy the plane tickets for the wrong time.

Let us know on the egg. I've had girls lay eggs that were a lot bigger than normal but still a single yolk with a lot more white than usual.

Hey everyone! Hope you all are doing well and having luck with your chickadees! I actually just bought 18 little quail chicks last week (ranging from 3 days to one week old) and because I liked that local ranch's Facebook page, I won a free Buff Orpington pullet! So many cute little chickies and still I found time, however, to take a trip to the beach where I got a super bad sunburn, haha! I'm hoping most of the pain will be gone tomorrow so I can continue painting without my shoulders twinging with each brush stroke.

Speaking of painting, I finally finished my Dreamer painting!!! She was a week's worth of work but now that she's done, I'm going to clean up her glass and gift her to a friend. I used one of the 9 windows that we bought as a canvas, so her background will be whatever wall her new owner puts her against. Here's a pic of the painting on a not-so-great background, haha! (Oh, ignore the smudges. Taking it down to clean it up is hard with this sunburn, so it has some smudges from when Mom put it up on the shelf.)

I've been sketching a couple more ideas to paint out on the windows, but I'm also thinking about taking some of the other windows and turning them into shelves with hooks so that it serves as art and actually has a purpose. We'll see how that works out, though, since I actually have to find some more scrap wood that I won't get in trouble for using, hehe!

WOW! That is absolutely stunning! I wish I could do something like that, but I have zero artistic talent.... not my gift. My stick figures even look bad! Lol! What a beautiful thing to give your friend. I'm sure they will treasure it.

Beatutiful! Who is she? Is it a self portrait?

I don't do people often (or well!) but whenever I sketch a male face, he always looks the same. As a pre-teen/teen, I thought I would meet him one day, and fall in love, and spend the rest of my life with him! Well, I met him in October of my senior year of high school. He was 22, I was 17. I fell instantly, blindly in love. We dated the rest of the school year, the following summer, he enrolled in college with me, and we dated all through the first semester. It took me until New Years to realize that he was a jerk. We broke up in the spring, of 1981, but I still see him . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . whenever I try to sketch a (male) person......

Well, I'm hoping she'll be able to sell it. She got robbed a couple weeks back (the only money she'd made for the entire day and some straight out of her purse) and if she can sell it, she can maybe make her money back. That being said, it would still be nice if she liked it enough to keep it. I wouldn't be hurt either way. :D

You know, my lil sister insists that every female I draw is a self portrait, but I am always adamant that it isn't. I changed the hair on this portrait (it was horrendously big before) and she was so sure that it was my own hair that I was painting in. I didn't have the patience to tell her that thick, straight hair is just easier to paint. I'm still learning to paint curly hair. Trust me, drawing the "perfect" male is nothing new to me, haha! I've never met him, nor do I plan to. He is almost always present in some part of any male I draw. I think that means I need more male examples for my drawings. Guess I might have to Google some men just to get more of an idea of what to draw. That'll be awkward, haha!
IB, that is absolutely beautiful! I admire your talent so much! I had all I could do to paint Motel Chix.
It took me a week and lots of alterations, so I totally get it! I've never actually painted on such a large canvas, so it actually was pretty hard. You can see every brushstroke if you're not careful, so I was really obsessive about making every important stroke blend in with the next. I actually got a chance to use my frayed brushes for shading! They really help with making shadows that aren't too heavy or broad. For awhile, I was worried the girl woul have a permanent 5 o'clock shadow. After I used my frayed brushes, I managed to fix it but she was kinda gray in the face for a couple days, haha! Painting actually was never my thing before I got to painting eggs. After that, I had a lot of practice. Now painting on bigger items is a learning experience and clearly a welcome one! :)

If your sunburn still hurts, mist it with Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar. You may smell like salad for a little bit, but it really takes the sting out of the burn.

Your window pane is beautiful.

Try painting people who would not be considered handsome or pretty - it's great practice to draw imperfections.

Good glorious morning to you all. I'm thoroughly loving this summer polar vortex. It's 65 degrees with a light breeze. Perfect weather. 13 y.o. off at summer camp for the week, so no raging hormones here! I've not had to work all week, so regaining some of my depleted energy. Planted rose bush, 2 Russian Sage, 2 different coreopsis and pink bee balm. Getting about a quart of raspberries/day lately, blueberries still coming on, pole beans are producing well. Several of the pullets checking out the nest boxes, though the ones who are doing so look to be a ways off from first egg. Rooster is tid bitting the girls, and actually sharing his morsels, making little nests all over the yard, wiggling his butt around in them and trying his best to entice someone, anyone, please, to put an egg in his latest comfy spot.
