WOW! That is absolutely stunning! I wish I could do something like that, but I have zero artistic talent.... not my gift. My stick figures even look bad! Lol! What a beautiful thing to give your friend. I'm sure they will treasure it.
Well, I'm hoping she'll be able to sell it. She got robbed a couple weeks back (the only money she'd made for the entire day and some straight out of her purse) and if she can sell it, she can maybe make her money back. That being said, it would still be nice if she liked it enough to keep it. I wouldn't be hurt either way.
Beatutiful! Who is she? Is it a self portrait? I don't do people often (or well!) but whenever I sketch a male face, he always looks the same. As a pre-teen/teen, I thought I would meet him one day, and fall in love, and spend the rest of my life with him! Well, I met him in October of my senior year of high school. He was 22, I was 17. I fell instantly, blindly in love. We dated the rest of the school year, the following summer, he enrolled in college with me, and we dated all through the first semester. It took me until New Years to realize that he was a jerk. We broke up in the spring, of 1981, but I still see him . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . whenever I try to sketch a (male) person......
You know, my lil sister insists that every female I draw is a self portrait, but I am always adamant that it isn't. I changed the hair on this portrait (it was horrendously big before) and she was so sure that it was my own hair that I was painting in. I didn't have the patience to tell her that thick, straight hair is just easier to paint. I'm still learning to paint curly hair. Trust me, drawing the "perfect" male is nothing new to me, haha! I've never met him, nor do I plan to. He is almost always present in some part of any male I draw. I think that means I need more male examples for my drawings. Guess I might have to Google some men just to get more of an idea of what to draw. That'll be awkward, haha!
IB, that is absolutely beautiful! I admire your talent so much! I had all I could do to paint Motel Chix.
It took me a week and lots of alterations, so I totally get it! I've never actually painted on such a large canvas, so it actually was pretty hard. You can see every brushstroke if you're not careful, so I was really obsessive about making every important stroke blend in with the next. I actually got a chance to use my frayed brushes for shading! They really help with making shadows that aren't too heavy or broad. For awhile, I was worried the girl woul have a permanent 5 o'clock shadow. After I used my frayed brushes, I managed to fix it but she was kinda gray in the face for a couple days, haha! Painting actually was never my thing before I got to painting eggs. After that, I had a lot of practice. Now painting on bigger items is a learning experience and clearly a welcome one!
