The Front Porch Swing

Ha! She's around. Why would she when she has this fabulous other front porch swing free forum site. I don't get over as much as I want to but I'm having to really gear back my posting. Just too much going on . At least, it's productive things.

I signed up for that other place, but didnt do much with it. These days I barely find time for BYC.

We have a new addition to the household.

Meet Gustav or Gus - I will have to check with DH on what the official name is. DH is off to a seminar for the night, so I got the pleasure of puppy sitting last night - pup cried all night - so DH could be rested for work. Hopefully tonight is better. Yay me...

@Blooie - that Kendra is just so dang cute! I hope everything continues to go well. I love your sewing trailer! I will have to get pictures posted of what will be my craft area when we get a chance to fix it up.

@LindaB220 congrats on the weight loss ! I hope your weight loss journey stays on track now.

I have been on Weight Watchers for a whole week and have lost just over 5 pounds. I hope I can keep it up. I am not expecting to lose 5 pounds every week, but I am aiming for at least 2 pounds a week, preferably 3.

I saw Bee on the other site, She won picture of the week with a fabulous snapshot of her mom holding her grandchild!

Pup slept pretty good last night. I made sure he didn't get any naps in until bedtime at 10. I wound him up pretty good about 9:30 to tire him out, then outside to go potty, wrestling in the living room and as soon as he stretched out to nap I popped him into his crate and he only howled for 5 minutes before going to sleep. Then my other dog had to bark at something outside twice and wake him up - but he went back to sleep with only about 10 minutes of whining. Crying at 2:30 to go outside and go potty, then back into the crate until 7 this morning. So I got some good sleep in. I am kinda tired still.

@lbejaran - can I borrow some of your energy and ambition?

Sounds like pup is off to a good start. Congrats!

Congrats also to those of you who are battling the bulge. It's such a struggle for sure. The greatest claim to fame I can make in that department is that I lost about 10# while building the coop, and have been able to keep it off so far. So, weight is down 10 # from what it was last winter. I'll be happy with that for now. Next big push will come when fruit trees arrive in the spring, and I resume my herculean landscaping efforts. Move that rock, drag those trees, build that stone wall, dig that hole, haul that mulch! Who needs a gym???

I know all about the puppy problems. My sister's new dog was absolutely horrendous at night. He was a lazy puppy, but late at night, he'd hop around the room and yip at me until I picked him up and put him in the bed. After five minutes, he'd be tired of sleeping on his little bed pillow and I'd have to play-wrestle with him for ten minutes before he finally passed out. And wouldn't you know it, my sister was completely dead to the world and wouldn't even respond to this little guy's cries.

Share the energy! After working on the last seven remaining ads I had to do for work, I went outside to check on the birds and started working on pulling weeds from the garden. I WILL GARDEN THIS YEAR!! I ended up finding a tempo and pulled quite a bit of the weeds. It helps that we've had light misting rains for the past couple weeks that have saturated the ground thoroughly. The weeds are so easy to pull up completely by the root. I want to finish it all in just a couple days, so I'm going to be going out everyday until it is done. The weather is a pleasantly cool 46F (especially when it starts getting hot with all the physical labor, haha), so the work is ideal for these conditions.

I just need to work on staying hydrated, though. I forgot to carry water with me outside and after 2 hours, I was starting to shrivel.

We've usually kept puppies in a cage over night. They quickly start treating it as their own personal safe nest, and retreat in there to sleep by themselves. Pretty handy for when you need to leave them alone too, they feel safe in their cages. After locking them in for a while you can start leaving the door open, they'll sleep in there anyway. Sort of like getting chickens used to their coop.

Yah, we are crate training him. Today he was put in the crate while I took a shower. If I can't keep an eye on him, he will have to stay in his crate. I have throw rugs in the washer right now, three accidents so far.
The only crate we have is an x-large one, so he has a complete mansion for himself. That crate was for our 80 pound Irish Setter, I may have to turn it upside down so he can see out the slots in the sides as they are on in the top 1/2.

I haven't posted for a bit, but have read along. Linda, great job with the weight loss! It's an uphill battle. Sorry to hear about the cyst, I'm glad it's no longer causing you pain. Keep up the good work and thank you for keeping us posted.
WyoDreamer, that puppy is adorable! It's been a long time scence I had to deal with a puppy. When I met my husband, Ruby was almost two, so out of the puppy stage. She is now ten. She is a spoiled dog! My husband said as a puppy, she would yelp and cry, so he put her in bed with him and then she went right to sleep. Now before bed she will cuddle with our cat, Opal, on her dog bed, then as soon as the lights go out, she's up in bed with us or in my sons bed! She use to get down, but now that she's old and it's winter I think she is just too cold, so she pretends she doesn't hear my

. But it's nice when the house is cold to have a heater. If I really want her to get down she will, but will end up back in bed with us or my son later. In summer, not as much. I think she thinks because she's a senior citizen now, we should let her get away with it!

A really bad picture, but here are Opal (cat) and Ruby (dog) having their night time cuddles. As soon as the light goes out, Ruby jumps in bed. Opal sometimes gets lonely on Rubys bed alone and comes and cuddles with Ruby in the bed or cuddles with my son. We need a bigger bed!

A better picture of the spoiled puppy! She even gets her own Christmas gifts, because she LOVES opening gifts! She just lays and looks at them until you give her the gift for her. She never opens them unless given to her, but when you give her one, she goes crazy. Just a little spoiled. Can you tell?
