The Front Porch Swing

IMHO, chocolate is not worth passing by my lips unless it's dark chocolate. Unfortunately, I'm so caffeine sensitive that a hint of chocolate after supper, or even mid afternoon for that matter = a night without sleep.

Yellow 5, Yellow 6 and Red 40 are nasty stuff. The others aren't much better, but those are downright toxic.
I know, icky, gross and deadly, but somehow when proposed as a sweet snack, hard to resist.

I love the Dove milk chocolate bars. Did you have plain M & M's - they also have coconut, almond, peanut, and peanut butter and mint ones. I used to love coconut flakes out of the can but, noticed every time I ate them I got hoarse. Coconut in baked goods never bothered me.

Over the course of checking, yes plain and peanut, almond=same reaction gotta be the dyes. I also noticed quality control is lacking, some of them were barely coated completely with a hard shell.

I'm in the seat right next to you Alice!!

Well, to be all technical, he is making sure the post is plumb.

Me too!

What kind of M&Ms? I learned decades ago that peanut M&Ms give me a pretty instant migraine. I can eat the plain ones and I can eat peanuts but not peanut M&Ms. Never tried M&Ms and peanuts at the same time.

We have a jigsaw puzzle titled "Death by chocolate". Maybe you can take a picture of a mess of M&Ms and have it made into a puzzle for tntchix.

All kinds, unfortunately. As I say this, I "KNOW" they are toxic to our system and shouldn't have been eating them anyway.

Great puzzle idea.

really? I am so past immune to caffeine, it's sad. All those years of drinking Mountain Dew 2 Ltrs before/after high school *so ashamed*

I so need to switch to dark chocolate, but it's bitter to me.

OK, TTMom, you've got me curious. Care to fork over your lentil brownie recipe??? I just gotta look at it, if not try it! I've had my husband keep all of the store bought treats in the back of his car, so they'll be safe while he's at work. My 13 y.o. will inhale an entire package of Little Debbies in a single afternoon, and his response will be: "Not me, I didn't do it." Hubby's also a junk food junkie, the irony being that he's also a diabetic! But, with the stuff in the car, it will last for weeks!

3 cups cooked lentils*
4 large eggs
6 tbsp coconut oil, liquid
2 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp molasses (more if you like, adds iron)

1 cup oats (quick or regular)
1 cup cocoa
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup sugar (you can use less if prefered)
3 tsp baking powder

Blend the lentils with the liquid ingredients in a blender, food processor or with a hand mixer. It may stay a bit lumpy, that's ok.

Add the dry ingredients, mix/blend.

Pour in greased muffin tins or a 9x13 pan. Recipe fit in 18 regular sized muffin wells, but you could make 24 easily.

Bake for 15-25 minutes at 350F, depending on the type of pan used. They're done when they pull away from the sides of the pan. They may still seem a bit mushy, but the coconut oil will harden as it cools below 76F. Stick in the fridge to easily remove from the tins.

* a 1lb bag of dried lentils makes about 5 cups cooked, 2 cans of lentils is also 3 cups cooked.

I've made those before, but the lentil brownies are gluten and dairy free. I recall the black bean ones being 1 box mix with 1 drained can beans (with 1 can water) in the blender. I love soda cake too. 1 box cake mix, 1 can soda.
