The Front Porch Swing

It is pouring rain here. I have 3 days off in a row (unheard of at WAL~MART). I have so much planned for these days....... Please, Mother Nature, what have we done wrong??. :)

I guess I will have to settle for spring cleaning indoors :(

I dont under stand it either.... Used to be when you worked in an office you dressed conservatively... No see through tops or bottoms No Camel Toe pants, No skirts up to your Hoo Hoo. No thong that shows itself everytime you bend over...And Gawd the Stilleto heels I saw a lawyer running in those one time..... Heaven forbid someone wears that crap to Church. If I were 20 something and had a great figure I might wear some of that... To a party.... or out dancing..... Not to church OR work.

I felt bad the last time I went to a church. My girlfriend asked me why I didint wear a dress. Not in my repertoire.... Last dress I owned was 25 years ago. Haven't been back. I was just there to see if I liked the minister in hopes to make some friend and possibly Identify with something.

Come to think of it I rarely see my "friend" any more.... Known her for 35 years... oh well.

You look just like you type! I've not been brave enough to just whack all my hair off to almost nothing. Would probably be easier. I finally stopped wearing skirts about 10 years ago, don't think I own one anymore. Nothing to wear to church either. My parents (80s) keep asking why I don't go to church, well, according to the church people, church isn't for people like me. Waiting to find a local group that wants to do bible study on their own time instead of support a free-loader with ideas about what's acceptable appearance in church and what's not.

Whoo, just made it through 2073 posts, haha! I hope you don't if I join everybody on the porch.

I'm still a bit green when it comes to chicken keeping and reading through this thread sure has gotten me motivated to get crackin' on some my side projects. Already I've sketched out plans for my garden and I've started fermenting layer feed, haha! This year is already turning out to be a good one for the flock and I'm sure it's God's blessing that is making everything so wonderful.

Hello from central Ohio. I wasn't going to post until I read the whole thread, but you guys are so chatty. Hi, Bee. Missed your wisdom for along time, Glad I found this thread.
Lindz. I lost 11 of my 21 birds last week to neighbors dogs. It wasn't the first time they had been here, but the first time the girls were out this year. We were friends with this neighbor. I called Animal Control. Since we are just on the border of the county they took a few hours to get here, but saw the damage and went to her place and left a note. I got a call saying about the same thing as your neighbor. " I just can't keep them tied up." I am going to have to put Duke (the german shepherd) down. She was in tears. I offered to have DH bring the tractor over and auger post holes so she could put up a run. Not interested. I told her the chickens were worth $25. each to me as they were all laying almost every day. She wanted to know how I came up with that and is refusing to pay anything. I saw the animal control truck as I was on my way to town a few days ago. Since they are never out here unless called, and the officer told me if they were not licensed and running when he checked back he would pick them up. Hopefully my problem is solved with these dogs. Set some new eggs and tried to get pol from Meyer, but they won't be available until May. Guess my egg business will be on hold again. I was finally gettling 12 - 16 eggs a day now I'm down to 3 or 4. Some people!

So many posts overnight.

I'm so sorry about losing your flock.

Bee - I can't find that post about you fishing with your boys, but it sounds like an awesome experience. And you had it for years!

I've noticed animal control is supremely un-useful, unless there's an un-knowledgeable complaint about something you're doing. Back when we kept horses, somebody called in and complained that they didn't have any water. I about lost it. There's a creek running through the pasture and on the back side of the pump house was a constantly flowing stock tank. What is up with those people? Just because they can't see it, they think it doesn't exist? I was blown away, does this mean all strangers are allowed to roam our property so that they don't have to call animal control? So anyway I sympathise with your issues. Nothing seems to get done from either side of the fence when it comes to animal control.

But when I have dogs terrorizing my chickens and ducks, they can drop off a trap. Shoot 'em if you have to. Now I had no idea who the dogs belonged to so I couldn't go chat with the owners. So now, just shoot.

Then I take a deep breath and remind myself that these folks are overworked and underpaid and didn't have a class in human behavior to help them weed through the idiots and real complaints and probably became animal control workers because they didn't like working with humans anyway.

OK, one more then I have stuff I have GOT to go do.

The old lady party!!!

Reminds me of a story of an old greek village where all the ladies got together at night and celebrated being female. The oldest lady there had a giant smoked sausage and all the ladies lined up to take bites off it. I have no idea where you want to go with this one but it sounded like a great way to ease frustration.

I work at WAL~MART, so my pay scale is not great. But when I found out the local dog warden makes less money (and has less benefits) I went back to my WV ways.....

S S S works every time.

Calling animal control got me monetary compensation and cleaned up the "wild pack of dogs" that was terrorizing the neighbor hood. But, it also caused a lot of red neck, arrogant, ignorant trailer trash type people to hold a grudge against me. I am a single female.......not a good situation to be in.

Ahhh shoot girl, I haven't owned a dress in so long I can't remember when it was. If you want to go to a church just go! Shoot you might influence some other women to come out of that dress code bondage! Start a revolution!!!!!!! LOL I go to whatever church I want to go to dressed in pants, usually nice jeans at that. If my pants are all they have to worry about they have some wonderful lives. And you know what...? They say women are supposed to wear "women's attire". Well back in Jesus' day I am willing to bet that they ALL wore a robe of some sort. I doubt there were "pants" - so what give MEN the right to claim pants as their own!!! That is so ignorant to me, just a control issue used to divide people. And what is worse to me than the men who try to police the issue is the women who do the same! I remember when I started wearing pants to church, I'd come home and my mom would ask if anybody else had pants on. I'd have to tell her I didn't know -because I actually didn't notice what anybody else had on - WHO CARES!
