The Front Porch Swing

50 miles south of Norman, 50 miles north of Ardmore. I live in Elmore City a very small community just west of Pauls Valley. I live on the farm that my grandparents purchased, then my parents owned it when I was born (a long long time ago), and now my husband and I live on the same 60 acres. I been to lots of Horse sales in Shawnee, we used to raise Cutting Horses and that sale in Shawnee was a hot spot for buying and selling.
welcome to the porch, my wife has cousins all around that part of Oklahoma, I was born in Tulsa, glad you decided to join us, mom grew up in McAlester, dad in a town that no longer exists just south of McAlester and east of Kiowa.

Thanks for the welcome. Who knows the way things are here we just might be related. Most of us here are ..... one way or the other.

I have been thinking about taking advantage of the feed store promotion later this month to get 5 free Cornish across chickens with a bag of Purina Flock a Raiser. But I just added up the turkeys in the freezer, and we have 283 lbs of that to get through ... there's only 2 of us. That's probably enough poultry.

Hi friends! Is there room on the porch swing for an Okie? I've been reading on the Fermented Feed Thread and was told I should come and join in the fellowship here. I could bring a fresh pecan (in Oklahoma we pronounce it Pecon) pie and some freshly brewed Sweet Raspberry Tea. I tried starting at page one but this thread goes way to fast to play catch up so I jumped ahead and started with last Monday's post. I love the relaxed atmosphere and comradery here.

A little bit about myself: I have been married to the same wonderful man for 37 years, I am the mother of two wonderful daughters that has blessed me with two son-in-laws and 6 beautiful grandchildren. I truly love my Lord and the little country church that I serve Him in where I love to sing old southern gospel music to Him. I have Blue Wyandottes, BLRW, MFC Bantams, and new baby Speckled Sussex and Partridge Rocks. I have miniature horses and one VERY spoiled schipperke dog that is my very best buddy. Enough about me.........

TexasLisa, my heart truly goes out to you. I cried when I read about your girls. I had a raccoon one time completely wiped out my whole flock. Took me months to come to grips with the devastation. May you have peace and comfort and soon hear the new chirping of a fresh new start of babies.

I look forward to becoming friends with you all and sharing in the special times of your lives......

My name is Carolyn too but I just go by Lacy on here. I love blues too!

When I read about Lisa's post I about choked to death too. Had to really fight to get a hold of myself. Then Bee's dog, Jake, breaks my heart on a regular basis, poor sweet devoted boy!

I LOVE pecon pie! That's how us westerners pronounce it.k

Yeah, pull up a chair!

Hi Lacy. So nice to be welcomed.

My husband and I spent a wonderful Oklahoma evening just watching the flicking flames of a fire that he had started for me and listening to the distant lonely cry of the coyotes. The temperature was perfect 50ish and there was only a slight whisper of wind (very unusual for Oklahoma where "the wind comes sweeping down the plains"). I could hear the soft chirping of my chickens as they were going to roost and all I could think was how wonderful our Heavenly Father is to bless all of us with such simple pleasures. May I never become callus and take for granted the simple things of life.

Thanks to all that took time to make me feel welcome here.

That is so funny/ironic. When I saw all the Okie posts, I was sorely tempted to sing online (type) "Ooooooooooklahoma where the wind....."

I love the Lord too..so deeply. I've always thought the Schipperke breed were beautiful, perky dogs. Sit your food and drinks down and sidle up for a chat.

I love the firepit that you brought us!

I know exactly where you are! Beautiful country. Do you still have horses? (I like your quote--very true!!)

Lisa :)

Love the quote too!

You really do a wonderful job of painting a picture for us.....I would love to be sitting there too, just listening to the night sounds and that snapping little fire.

Hello to all you new folks! Glad to see you on the porch and yep, so cool to see so many brothers and sisters in the Lord. That is really really nice! :)

I believe as soon as warm weather gets here we need to build a bonfire out in the yard - have a potluck, roast a pig, deep fry some chickens, roast some marshmellows, etc. We need to celebrate when this winter is OVER!
