The Front Porch Swing

I've been looking through a nursey catalog... talking about chicken math! I could easily pick out $500 worth of this stuff!!! Flowers, fruit trees, nut trees, vines and bushes and ...help meee!!! LOL

The must have list:
Granny Smith Apple Trees
Black Walnut Trees
Elderberry Bushes
Paw Paw Trees

Got some trees in the yard that need replacing. Why not replace them with trees that have FOOD on it...? And why didn't I plant all of this years ago?

This is unbelievable .  As you all know from one of my earlier post I have 3 adopted grandchildren and 1 foster grandchild that all have been through the DHS system.  Here in Oklahoma I had to have a state inspector come and inspect my house, do a background check on me and my husband, and inspect even my backyard before I could even keep my own grandchildren over night with out their parents. How could this escape the case workers attention?   UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

I agree totally unbelievable!!!

We had to go through all of that, AND get Foster Care certification, AND get background checks, AND get affidavits from the schools Jamie and Little Diane were attending, AND sign up for continuing Foster Care family education, AND have 3 hearings in court just to be able to be awarded Relative Foster Care of our two grandchildren. Two years later, when we went from Relative Foster Parents to full time guardianship, it was even harder. I must say, the financial aid we received, first from the state and then (after we got full custody) the child support from the parents, didn't cover half of what it took to raise these two remarkable little people. I don't understand why people think that taking on Foster kids is a path to wealth. Well, I guess it is in our case.....those two kids are worth their weight in gold to me and Grampa, and if faced with the same situation we wouldn't do a thing differently, except perhaps intervene long before we did.

Hey hey hey there's a new egg in the nest today! Was it sister one or sister two? I can not tell but if one laid today the other shouldn't be far behind

Do you realize that I went away for a week, and there are more than 100 pages worth of posts since then?

How is a girl supposed to keep up????

We left and went on a house hunting trip and exchanged out suburban city house in a frigid climate (Central/northern Canada) for 7 acres on a coastal island, complete with barn, chicken coop, and trees over 100' tall!!!!!

The chicken coop will need some major renovating (hasn't been used in 20 years), But.... CHICKENS THERE WILL BE!!!! And lots of them!!!

I am already having a problem with my chicken math... I only need about 5-6 eggs/day for our family, but then if we want to eat chickens, then I could get cornish Xs, or I could just get a dual-purpose group.... but how do I calculate that?

And then I saw some beautiful Coronation Sussex that I can get for relatievly cheap and nearby, but how can I buy only 3, or even 5, when I know that they are not sexed as day olds so they may ALL be roos, and then how do I have more that aren't inbred? And then I definitely want a mixed bunch of egg clours, so I want some EE, Americaunam black copper Marans.... And OH! The Brahmas are big and cuddly so they would make good eating - and they are supposed to be broody too....

How many chickens does that make? LOL!!!!

Oh, and have you seen the Colombian Wyandottes? I MUST get some of those!

Hmm....

I think I need to size up the coop to see ho many can fit, and then figure out how much bigger a coop I need to make! Good thing I got what I asked for for the Christmas (for the first time ever). A TOOL POUCH, with many tools!!!!

Now I will get a can of Yellow spray paint and mark all tools that are mine so I can cut a finger off of anyone who runs off with MY tools!!!! Boy do I get frustrated when I can't find my tools because someone hasn't put them away.

Oh, and I just saw some Euskal Oiloa chickens that are beautiful too!!!
How exciting for you!!! Please show pictures when you can.!

Congratulations!!

Read the story again. ....... thank God that deputy was observant. He was investigating the animal complaint at ANOTHER house not this one.

All I can say is OMG! Looking for a chair to crawl under and cry.......

My gosh, I didn't catch that part. If they were going to another place on an animal call, if it was worse than what they found I would hate to have seen it!!! I do believe I could just walk up to somebody that treated a kid like that and just bust them right square in their mouth, and that would just be a start! I know, I know - we're not supposed to act like that but...

Well I got my belly laugh for the day. I caught a mouse in the garage so I tossed it to the birdies and watched mouse football.hahahaha All was wonderful UNTIL one came over to where I was sitting and wiped her beak on my shoe! Ahh... yuck! LOL I don't know about you guys but I don't mention my birds' taste for mouse to those city folks that buy the eggs. HA!

...got 19 (mouse flavored lol) eggs out of 23 layers today - YAY GIRLS!!

My older daughter stopped eating eggs for a month after she saw ours running around fighting over a mouse.
