I think I FINALLY have a broody hen. FINALLY!!!!!!!

So I can set eggs either tonight or tomorrow, depending on how soon I can get someone to help bring one of the broody cages from the barn where they are stored.

Now the fun begins! Nothing as wonderful as a broody hatch and that little family interacting. Pure magic!

It's sunny and 66* here in the shade today...bluebirds are building their nest and it's such a blessing to watch that. It's my favorite songbird and the male will sit on a tree by my bedroom window of a morning and sing his heart out. That flash of blue is so pure it's like a feast to the eye.

Yesterday I stripped off more of the winterizing things from the coop...the annual taking off of winter garb, putting on the spring/summer wear. The chickens are laying at peak, huge eggs and strong shells, so I hope to have more success with another nest hatch with this group of eggs coming out of the production line.

I hope to tweak this coop up this spring to such a degree that I no longer have to mess with seasonal plastic, will have more room, more light and more air while the coop is still battened down for winter time.

Can you guys pray for my father? He spent all day yesterday with "flu" from both ends (should be spelled flue, right?) and still feels rough this morning.

He is 77, and still running the farm and two related businesses and socializing virtually every night (pretends to be "at an appointment"

), so besides being at an age where it is sensible to worry about any passing bug, it is massively inconvenient and frustrating to him to be down.

I was on it before I finished reading your entire post!

I got this in an email this morning, along with a screen shot of her tickets! Yayyyy....she's coming, she's really coming. She's been talking about it, but you know how that goes sometimes. So May 31 we'll be heading to the airport in Billings to pick up our Little Diane. I'll have to tell you the story of how my granddaughter came to be named after me. But right now there's so much going on on the Porch that is way more important - new grandbabies, new grandbabies expected, new homes, duckies, new hatchings, Diet Coke withdrawals, bluebirds coming home, and a dad who isn't feeling well. So I'll just wait a bit with that one.

YAY!!!!!

I just set 33 eggs in the incubator this morning!
lindz, you are a bad influence. Just hatched out 7, have 16 in the brooder and will probably set another dozen tonight when I get the incubator cleaned up and ready. I am supposedly doing these for a friend, but if she doesn't want them they will go out with the rest of the kids.
Bee- Congrats on the grandbaby and the new chickies.
I am putting this computer down now and go out to work on the grow- out pen in the coop. It needs some TLC before I move the larger chicks outside.

Excited for you Bee. What a week indeed!

LJ prayers are being sent up for your father.

Ibejaran you are one smart gal. Saving is a very good way to start your working life out right. Keep it up sweetie.

And blooie you got us all wondering now please do tell us your story. Wait let me get a pillow to set on first my bottom's a little tired of setting on this porch floor. Okay I'm ready how was this beautiful lady bug named after you?
