The Front Porch Swing

What kind of bag? Like an oven roasting one?

Sorry, I mix all the good stuff (oil, seasonings) in a veggie bag (the kind you grab to put your veggies in), then throw them in a glass baking pan or whatever baking pan is clean

I set it at 375, every 10 mins I mix it, until it is cooked the way I like it. Normally about 20-30 mins.

That's pretty much how I do most of our veggies too. Roasting brings out such intense flavor. Hubby's favorites are Brussel Sprouts.
Thanks.

Never been a big fan of avocados, but I love a good 'mater sammich with nothing but mayo and salt! Oh, yeah! Been gone all day today - left for Sheridan early this morning, peeked in via my phone a couple of times, but no opportunity to respond to anything. Hope everyone had a peaceful Sunday. We just got home about 45 minutes ago, and I've been waiting all day to tell you what happened!

I was at a farm store today on the way to Sheridan, and they had 6 of those big metallic stock tanks for holding ducklings, chicks, and turkey poults, but most of the bins were empty. One bin had 3 "chicks" in it and it was clearly marked, "White Leghorns". The problem? In that bin were 3 turkey poults. I asked the lady there about that. "Did someone just put them back in the wrong brooder?"

She looked me dead in the face and said, "No, those are..."(looks at the sign) "White Leghorns." So I said, "Hmm, what can you tell me about them? They look pretty big to me."

"Well," she replied, "They are good layers of white eggs, and excellent as dual purpose birds." Really?

"But they're turkeys!" I protested.

If I hadn't been taller than she was she'd have looked down her nose at me. "Ma'am, I've been working here for 3 years and have taken care of more poultry than most people see in a lifetime. I'm telling you these are absolutely White Leghorns!" No sooner were the words out of her mouth when an older male employee walked past, glanced into the bin, then stopped and stared at the "chicks" for a second.

"Who put the turkeys in this bin? We sold the last White Leghorns a couple of days ago and this bin was empty this morning. Greg and Jason were supposed to get it out of here and clean it up."

I just looked at her. "Yep." I said. "You sure know your stuff." I pointed at the bin marked, 'Red Sex Links', where several bright whitish-yellow chicks were running around. "Aren't those the cutest little Black Copper Marans you've ever seen?" I didn't turn around to look at her - didn't need to. Sometimes you can just hear people chomping on a good helping of crow and not need to watch them eat it!

Speaking of gardening as well as insect pests such as mites, here is a good website with lots of solutions. I wonder if these "mite predators" would work in a henhouse...? I've ordered mosquito dunks from this place. They work pretty good.

That's a little creepy using bugs eating other bugs. They said that Works well if mite infestion is low. What if it is high. Mites will eat the killer bugs?

Yes, speaking of gardening......... I had to leave the La thread today. 5-6 solid pages of pictures and info on what's in each persons front yard. Just so many pics of flowers I can stand. Just saying.

With that I think I'll go to bed. Tired myself out .

Moan, I love avocados. Nobody else likes them in the house so we hardly ever buy them.

well buy them just for you! Don't think you're worth having them for yourself? :) You can have them even though no one else does. I used to be the SAME WAY. IF no one else liked it I didn't buy it. I love souse but no one in my family does but I buy it now for myself and I get to enjoy it. Life is sooooo short not to get the things you enjoy to eat. No one else likes oysters but me and I still get me oysters. oh AND liver loaf, I LOVE liver loaf but no one else does. BUY you some avocados!!!

AND ENJOY THEM!!!!

Oh, I would have paid good money to have been there!!!!! I'm thinking you were talking to one of those bona fide BYC "experts" who have had a few pet chickens in her back yard for a few years.....

And since when are WLs a DP bird? They are about as likely to be turkeys as they would be DPs.
