The Front Porch Swing

Bruce,
I do the "OK" and the "ok" drives me up the wall.
I am late 40's.

But your daughter is right, anything in caps means "intense" as in angry or extremely excited. Just the only way they have to express emotion in this internet/text based world we live in.

'Cuz they have overused the exclamation point to the point that it now means nothing ...

And they know no other punctuation but exclamation points.

Yes and YES!!!! to both BeeKissed and LeslieDJoyce.

Well, we are closing on the new house next Friday. Too excited! (or is that !!!!!!)

I am actually going to be able to see it on Thursday at 5:30 pm before we sign on the dotted line on Friday at 9 am.

About 6 years ago, I was emailing back and for with a friend, and I made a funny comment and she responded with "ROTFLMAO". I was dumbfounded. What the heck?! I was at work at the time so I put it in the back of my mind pondering it for about an hour, and eventually called her and asked her what she meant. I guess that is a lot more intense than a LOL!

Hey, Blooie - I am updating the maps at work and I need to work on the Cowley map on Monday. I think it will take about 2 minutes... anything you want me to add?

What I have problems with are Abbreviations that have been standard for oh say 80 years or more

ETA should mean Estimated time of Arrival

BTW should mean By the Way

I have seen ETA being used instead of By the way..... and the only way to figure out its use was the content of the text afterwards.

I have to admit I am Acronymically challenged.... But dang dont mess with existing standards.

I've noticed that around here ETA means "Edited to Add". I just used it in that context.

And I like to use TPTB for "The Powers That Be." I don't think I invented that one, but it isn't all that popular, so seems to cause more confusion than necessary.

DH had me puzzled for the longest time. OH, also.

I gather LOL isn't cool any more. I tend to type variations of hehehehehe (hahahaha, bwhhahahaha). Which can be typed jejejejejeje if Spanish ... that one tripped me up for a while.

FWIW, YMMV, IMHO, IMNSHO ...

Around here all the BOs and BAs and RIRs and SLWs and WLs and WRs just get translated in my little head to "chicken, probably."

Yeesh.

I had to ask on OH, my closest guess was Other Husband - so probably not a correct interpretation of OH (Other Half). heeheeheehee

DOH!   Time to renew my Golden Feather membership!!! My apologies to all the good people at BYC.

I know there are twenty something year olds that can neither read nor write cursive. Hugely surprising news to me. In an NPR story a while back the "kid" had taught himself to read cursive so he could read (with great effort) letters from his grandmother (I think) but couldn't write it  Both my girls learned it in grammar school and they are several years younger than this guy. I guess it depends on the school system, some stopped nearly 20 years ago? BEFORE most people had computers and word processing software?? Almost before Al Gore invented ;) the internet? If they HAVE to (shudder) write on a piece of paper, it is either slow printing or "fast" printing so ppl no wat u r thnkng. And the kicker is: It ISN'T all that hard! No harder than learning the "print" letters.  OK, who (besides Bee and me ;) ) knows why the letters are referred to as "upper case" and "lower case"?

Yep, knew that too. :D Surprising how few do.
So, anyone want to talk about Rocky Mountain Oysters?  My younger daughter likes smoked oysters. Given she is going to college in the mid west, I felt it necessary to let her know that Rocky Mountain Oysters are NOT the same thing on the off chance someone offered her some.  You should have seen her face :lau And no, I have not availed myself of the opportunity to sample same.

What color are the bottom of the feet on the black ones? If white, they certainly can be Black Australorps.
And it sounds like maybe "Mom" needs (different) glasses.

Bruce

I teach 3rd grade in Texas and we just straight up don't have time to teach handwriting anymore. I send home the handwriting book we are supposed to use on Thursdays for homework and hope for the best. I write stuff on the smart board and wipe off board on cursive. But I tell them what it says. Some kids come from other countries, mostly Britain, already writing in cursive. But they make done of their letters different.
