The Front Porch Swing

I think the salt blocks are more about heat conduction than flavoring the food. You probably heat clean them? There is (was?) a salt boutique in Portland that held cooking classes for those things. I've always wanted to take the class.

I'd love to learn to make salt. Probably my favorite salt is French sea salt.
They also can be frozen in order to make peanut brittle...... So they conduct both heat and cold.

Quote: Cant help with the poison Ivy... It doesnt exist here in California.... But we do have Poison OAK.

Here are maps of the four offenders..... Eastern Poison Ivy, Western Poison Ivy, Poison Oak, and Poison Sumac.

All of them have the same treatment

Here is what the CDC says about them including treatment:

Gee, that's a thought!  I had quite an area to cover, though, and gee, that might have stung a little.  But think on the positive side - I could have painted a "thong" before they were all the rage!  :lau

Chiggers on the personals would be really really bad but if it was poison ivy - just go on and shoot me please!

You guys are hilarious! So glad my husband has left for work or he would have me committed!

I don't get poison ivy. DH does, bless his heart. He can be in the vicinity of it and get it!

DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME: One of my little brothers use to get poison ivy all the time when we were little. He looked like a little china man, his face and eyes were so swollen. An old-timer down the road told Brian (he was maybe 7 or 8 at the time), to eat the first leaf of poison ivy when it first comes up in the spring and he wouldn't get it anymore. He DID it! Mom about died over that. She called the doctor and he said, 'watch him'. Guess what, he hasn't had it since.

Blooie, I feel your pain/embarrassment. I didn't get chiggers 'down south', but they were all over my legs and arms. Ken and I had just gotten married and were visiting his parents in Oklahoma. I was playing in the back yard with my dog and started itching. By nightfall, I was covered. I brought out the nail polish. I looked like a giant squid had hugged me!

Lisa :)

@Lisa... I wish somebody had told me that. But I would have probably been too scared to eat it. I had and still have a whole lot of respect for poison ivy. lol It still amazes me that some people don't get it at all and it eats other people up. I don't get it near as bad as when I was little. It was a yearly thing back then!

Anybody that doesn't get poison ivy should still be careful. The more times you are exposed to it, the more likely you are to start getting the rash. I was always the one in my family who worked in it whenever there was some to be dealt with. However, I became allergic to it, starting about 5 years ago. So I went nearly 50 years without a problem. My allergy still isn't as severe as the rest of my family, thankfully.
