I wouldn't dare do that to my little broody....she is being such a trooper.

Praying everyone in the line of these storms stays safe. We had rain here in VA today. Normal April showers. We are under a flood watch, which always makes me laugh here in the mountains. I remember when I was little all the flooded roads and soaked basements in WI. If it floods at my house now on this mountain, we're gonna need an ark!

A couple spring flower pics for you all. The white dogwoods are still amazing. My pink ones didn't give much of a show this year and are already done. The lilac was a pleasent surprise. We just bought our place in August, so I am still discovering all the spring goodies. I have loved lilacs since my childhood. The smell takes me back to my nana's backyard. I would eat my breakfast outside at my little tykes table while she dug in the garden. She always had the prettiest lilies.

I'll join the hatch along. I have chicks hatching right now and will have more next week ... or is it the week after? And will start another clutch tomorrow.

I'm not looking in the hatching nest yet ... I'll wait until momma decides to show me. But one was out for a half second before she clucked it back under. :D

So very beautiful!!! Our dogwood and redbud are in bloom right now also and it smells heavenly in the woods right now. What part of VA are you in?

I love it when you see that first chick under a broody...such a hidden, special time between the hen and her babies. So sweet!

It will take some time for me to see if my broody wants to sit tight and also to collect WR eggs enough from one hen to make it worth while. At least 10 days of breeding and laying. I'm going to have to do a shuffle of birds between areas to pull this off.....kill a rooster.

Botetourt County (pronounced Bot tet tot, no clue why) Not too far from Roanoke. I agree, the woods do smell amazing! I have a habit of closing my eyes and soaking in the sun and smells while walking. Sometimes turns out disastrous, but allows me to appreciate the little things that go unnoticed when my eyes and brain and fixated on something else. Perhaps it is the especially hard winter we had, perhaps it is now that we are out of the city walls and working outside instead of in front of the TV, but this spring has made us all feel so much more alive than in the past.

I wanted to mention, Bee, that my neighbor is from WV and brought over some ramps for us to try. He said they have a strong taste and some people like them, others can't stand them. I will jump right up and say that I love them! He talked about festivals and such this time of year. Have you ever tried them?

Thanks for the welcome, Triple Willow! I take a lot of pictures, but I am trying to be better about putting the camera down and enjoying moments first hand instead of through a lens and after the fact!

My youngest flock of chickens I got about the middle of last June and they laid really well all winter. Hatching out some chicks about now may make for some more good winter layers. And I bet a bird laying late this fall would bring good money.

Bee, will you give me a short tutorial on hair sheep? :) No doubt should I get some they will get fermented feed. When you had yours did you do any vaccinating, deworming, etc?
