The Front Porch Swing

Lap band is the only surgical procedure I would consider. I am close to 400 lbs. Knees blown, a plethora of aches and pains. Some weight related...exacerbated

My frame is designed for 145 +- lbs.... Imagine carrying two people on your back weighing 100 lbs each. Sitting on you when you sleep getting in your way when going through doors. Having people assume you are unintelligent. having people not want to make eye contact. Making you afraid to stand on one foot while getting in the shower.

Any hoo.... I am hoping to get on the track for lap band when I get on Obama Care.

That's the thing, isn't it? People so pigeonhole fat folks...they do act surprised when they find out you aren't lazy, stupid, or immobile. That's one group the media and the rest of the population feel free to downgrade and discriminate against...that always mystifies me. A bulemic/anorexic has a medical condition and they "just can't help it" but a fat girl "just doesn't care about her body"...funny how that works. Telling a fat girl to just stop eating is the same as telling an anorexic, "Just eat something!". It's a double standard.

Fat is hard enough to deal with, without folks making it worse by acting like one is lazy or stupid. Try being from WV and being fat...they really love that combination!

Buried another chick today, and one was missing when I locked up.... Not a good week around here!!!!!  :he

I'm sorry, Lindz.  :hugs   I've been having similar luck lately...one meat chick got a leg broken by the rooster and had to be put down.  Another got stepped on by me and had to be killed.  Yet another looks like it had coccidiosis and was culled(my first ever case of that, or any illness, in 38 yrs, ruining my good record!) and my best WR hen died off the roost the other day of liver failure. Hale and hearty the day before, laying every day and looking like a queen and then died at the ripe old age of 1 yr.   Then another meaty had a gimpy leg, possible injury of some kind and didn't want to walk, but I applied Castor Oil and cut his feed back and that did the trick...he's out foraging all day today.

Worst string of luck I've ever had with chickens, I do believe.  You and I will beat our heads on the wall together, shall we?  :D   :he

Oh no! This is all very sad!

talk to different surgeons and make sure you find the right doctor and the right procedure. I'm in the healthcare field and hadn't considered surgery until I started reading about newer procedures. Ten years is new so there is a track record but I am almost opposite of you in that I wouldn't consider the bypass procedures as too drastic and I refused to have a.foreign body implanted .

The advances they have made in bariatric surgery are amazing. Good luck to you in whatever you decide. One place I found informative was.obesityhelp.com.

I've read about consuming healthy fats (like coconut oil and even butter!) and it is supposed to help prevent dementia from worsening. I'm taking it now because dementia runs in my family and I'm encouraging Mom to do the same. I melt a little in her coffee and in my tea to get a decent dose. It helps that coconut oil is delicious, hehe!

It has todo with the fat keeping the brain from shrinking and essentially losing fat as you age. The "plumper" your brain is, the less likely your are to have memory loss. Kinda funny how that works, huh? Hehe!
Hey, I gotta congratulate you on this move! Plenty of people never do anything about the aches and pains but the fact that you did means you give a hoot about yourself and your body.

I'm working on losing weight now. As a 21 year old, it seems silly to put off losing weight until I'm too heavy or a little too old to do it naturally. I'm gonna use my time between jobs to get healthier. Having the chickens has given me loads of perspective and now I can see myself being a healthier person. I may never be a size 2 or be able to comfortably wear short shorts, but I'd like to be able to go to the beach and not feel like I'm being stared at like a beached whale. :gig
lose it now while you are young it only gets harder! I'm not worried so much about being a certain size as hoping some of the aches go away but if that whale image works for you use it! Losing naturally just hasn't worked for me. I wish I had paid more attention when I was your age. :/

Hey, I'm not one to judge. Plenty of people have trouble losing weight naturally, including me. I had to really work hard to lose weight in the first place. That meant getting on the elliptical for an hour everyday and just going until I couldn't anymore. Afterwards, my legs would be jelly but I lost weight. Keeping a decent diet was hard, though, when you aren't in complete control if what food enters your home. I've maintained my weight for a year now and am steadily losing weight now. I have been getting much more active lately, though, especially since there is much more to do now that I'm home and working with the chickens again. However, I've always been overweight. I can't remember a time when I wasn't.

The beached whale thing was more of a joke, haha! I don't care much what others think of my looks, but it would be nice to not have to pay extra for bigger pants. Being heavy is expensive, especially if you want to be stylish and comfortable. ;)

I had an internet acquaintance that lives in Oklahoma the part of the state that was Razed last year. He had his own.... So I got curious. There are some shelters that get built in the spot where your front door is.... The top of the shelter is the landing for your front door. So it doesnt stand out in your landscape. The steps to the house was on one side and the hatch to the shelter was on another.

Code requires ours to be behind the front of the building. That looks really cool though. We've got it all figured out where ours is going to go (trust me, hubby has been standing, thinking, standing, thinking for years

Hey as an ex real estate broker I can give you a few ways on how you can reduce the amount of interest you pay on any loan.
One ask for an amortization schedule from your bank, it shows you how much of each payment goes to the interest and principle, double if you can the amount of principe by adding the amount to your payment each month and write "for principle". Second, instead of one payment each month, divide your payment and pay every two weeks the same amount, you will pay extra over time but it reduces the loan. 3 at the end of each year pay a single lump sum directly to principle it can literally cut your loan owed in half just in one extra payment. People dont realize that for about 15+ years of a 30 yr loan literally nothing goes to what you actually owe, your paying the bank its interest first! Sadly, I saw many people lose their homes and it made me sick. One reason I moved here. I didnt want to end up like my parents and grandparents with nothing when I was old. Since I worked with many who didnt use interest or had no credit history I learned tricks of the trade and I shared this info with my clients. Every person I helped buy a house still lives in them.
Here im looking for an older style, lets say design can be horrible lets not talk colors of paint or tiles. Im looking at least170 meters or over 1800 sq ft for the house and 500 meters minimum for land. Sadly many feel with the hope of a National Cup in Soccer stadium being built in town that land which was under 100 a hectare is now going for millions. So I have to look farther inland. Right now I can walk to the Mediterranean Sea in about 5 minutes. I want enough land for a few meat animals and hope that my daughters find suitable men with land when they marry. But im not suposed to be online too much to conserve what little we have left. If you need more info leave me a PM.

You'd pull your hair out if you knew the mess I am in with my house

My ex-husband and I purchased the house in 2009, paid probably too much, but I wanted it.. I loved it.. bla bla. Ofcourse the market crashed right after
roll.png
and then I found out ALL the things that were wrong with the house that the inspector never noticed (or did not care to notice). We divorced a year later, I offered to keep the house, since there was no way we would be able to sell it for anything close to what we owed. Trouble is, I was never on the mortgage OR the title... I was on all the applications, but was somehow left off on the final paperwork. He did do a quitclaim deed for me, taxes are now in my name etc. but mortgage is still in his name. Can't refinance since the house is pretty much under water. It's in constant state of fixing up. The only option is the FHA streamline, BUT, since I am not on the original mortgage, that's not an option.

*sigh*

So, I just pay the mortgage every month and keep on trucking. About 1/5th of the payment goes to priciple atleast... sadly still paying PMI, which I hate. Interest rate is 5.25% which is WAY higher than most loans you can get now.

Ugly sale, for sure... we got taken by all parties involved. Very sad. Nothing like finding out you have to replace every wall in your home because they're rotten. Already put a new roof on the place last year, because I had a waterfall running down my walls in several rooms.
roll.png
Still a cute house though.. especially once we're done rebuilding every room (new drywall, new windows, new ceilings, fix electric from the 50s)

When I got my adjustable rate mortgage back in 1988 for my eensy house here in San Digeo... 3 bed 1 bath no garage... I got the Principal and interest on every bill. Principal was 50 interest was the rest of 600 bucks I doubled the principal each time ..... and it would vary. There was no option to split a payment into two halves.... Unfortunately....

An additional way to slim down the bill paying is to Take your highest interest loan.... Uusally a credit card. Work hard paying it off paying a little extra each time if you can. Once that bill is paid. Say it was 25 dollar per month bill. Take that 25 dollars per month and add it to the next bill payment that needs to be paid off. YOur monthly payment out lay will stay the same Yet you will pay off your bills in a much much abbreviated rate.

Now once the bills are paid.... Take that total monthly amount and add it to your mortgage principal. The beauty of this is its flexible you arent locked into higher payments.

I learned this when i heard some people I was working with had more than 25,000 in credit card debt.... ONe fellow discovered this and applied it

deb

I can proudly say I am a saver. I never have been one to be in debt. I have a mortgage and that's it. I use credit cards, but pay them in full every month. Car is pre-owned and paid for. If I don't have money for it, I wont buy it. We carried a balance last year and it was killing me... we had to pay out of pocket for funeral expenses and maxed out several credit cards to do so. Luckily with good credit I managed to get a couple 0% APR cards and didn't pay a dime in interest. Did end up taking a little bit out of my tiny IRA, and paid 10% taxes on it, but that was better than paying 20% interest in my opinion.

I used to make extra payments on my mortgage, before the kids... we both worked full-time back then.
lol.png
Life's good as it is though. I enjoy the simple life. I don't like having lots of stuff.. less money, less stuff to worry about. Except for buying storm shelters
wink.png

Could you have it double as a cellar so you can store food? That way you can make it do double duty.

That's the plan. With the bigger one I could put a wall to wall rack in for food storage and emergency supplies. Our house is tiny, so the extra space would really help. I was raised to always have a well stocked pantry.. buy your staples when they're on sale etc. I shop for the bulk of groceries every 1-2 months (30+ minute drive to Aldi), then getting milk and fruit at the local supermarket once a week or so. It would be nice to have a place to put more canned goods.

I've referred to myself as being the fat old broad at the end of the street with all the animals. In truth i'm not that old (47) but i'm only 5'3" and 215 lbs. I have always said there is nothing wrong with being fat, just be appropriate. :) I have, however, as recently as today made the decision to have a gastric sleeve procedure. For years I've said the only way for me to lose weight would be to have my jaw wired shut. My back hurts, my hips hurt and my feet hurt. I'm tired of hurting! Haven't said anything to my family as i'm afraid they would be worried. My hubs is totally supportive. My surgery is scheduled for July 9th. Hope to make some of the hurt go away. :)

I've always been a bigger gal, but when I started working .. Oh my goodness, I would CRY at night, my legs were hurting so bad. I was 25 I think and I decided it was rediculous to feel 60. I started keeping a food log. If it went in my mouth, it went on paper. Nothing wakes you up like just having to write down what you eat (that piece of candy here, that cookie there etc.) Did that for about 2 weeks, without changing a thing in my diet. Then I started limiting my intake, 1800 calories in my case. Still wrote it all down. I quickly learned how many calories were in things I ate often. Then I made smarter choices, so my calorie 'budget' went further... I swear, I lost weight so fast! And I'd been dieting off and on since I was 12. Starving yourself doesn't do any good, cutting down just a bit makes a huge impact.

Now, I was working at Domino's and later on a fast-food/family restaurant. I was around food ALL the time.. but once you have that mindset, you can do anything.

In the '09 picture I was probably 235lbs. I was close to 300 in '06.

Ofcourse, then I had two kids and gained a whole bunch back
lau.gif
When I had Amelia I was 317 lbs. I'm 299 lbs right now, losing a few pounds daily.. lots of water. I was 285lbs when I got pregnant. Hoping to end up somewhere near that number, and get back on my horse and get my butt back into shape. I had SO much energy when I was 'skinny'.. I miss that. And I was buying clothes without a W in the size
lol.png
I want to be able to keep up with the kiddos!

Quote: Yep Yep. The other combination is being In Bikini land.... Wearing levis to go swimming. Or avoiding going to restaruants where you dont fit in the booths.

When I bought my house up in the desert I was about 300 lbs. While I lived there I dipped into the 200s a couple of times. Then I moved back to town to work.... and fluffed up. One time when I came back to my home my neighbor Tom was having a get together of a few people I knew from up there. I dropped over to ask him a couple of questions. One gal there was shocked to see me. She layed in to me and told me I needed to cut the groceries and do some serious exercising. I told her she didnt know what she was talking about.

Then she had the nerve to ask if they could use the shower at my house.... I said a flat no.... No inflection. I still had a roommate living there and told them so. And if they needed to take a shower they should take one at Toms. She said Toms shower was broken..... I told them That was an easy thing to fix.... and I excused myself. **** Tweakers.... Toms Son and his girlfriend....

Sheesh all I would have to do is become a Tweaker too and allll my problems would be solved. I am a very nice person.... I chat and am friendly with most people. Even tweakers. But I am not a door mat...

Me too...! I need to lose at least 100 lbs (doctors would say I need to lose about 160 lbs). My weight hasn't bothered me too much until last year when I started having all kinds of joint trouble. First I got bursitis in my hip. Let me tell you, THAT was the absolute worst pain I have ever had! I am not a cray baby but that had me in tears several times. It hurt so bad I could barely walk and seriously considered crawling. It lasted about three months and a big part of that time I was using a walker to keep from putting any weight on that leg. One morning it hurt so bad I couldn't roll over to get out of bed. I laid there for I don't know how long just trying to get up. When I finally got up I slept in the recliner for about two weeks. Finally got over that then tore something in my knee of the same leg. Hobbled around with that, using the walker again. Finally got to where I could get around fairly well then hurt my foot on the same side. It hurt so bad I thought I had broke it. Drag out the walker again. Now my feet and knees hurt most of the time and some days I want to sit down and just not get up! Ibuprofen has become another food group! I have got to lose it or else!!!
