The Front Porch Swing

Wow you all have been very chatty today! I've been busy with laundry, and my mom's boyfriend brought his taxes for me to do. The two littlest ones have had a low fever all day and fell asleep around 10:30 and slept til 1:30. I got a soft egg today, it was laying on the roost under Eleanore when I went to lock up tonight. I am wondering if the attack the other day is the cause of it. I will definitely be on the lookout for more! I'd really hate to have to cull her, but will if it ends up being a regular occurance! We are expecting more snow than we have had since 2009.... They have already called school off for tomorrow and it hasn't even started doing anything yet.

And Bee... so excited! I hope they hatch for you!!!!!

AWwwwwwwww! That pic of your sweet baby child is so adorable...fell asleep right in the corner! I love it when kids do that...fall asleep in weird places. I'd say that your assessment of the reason for that egg is a good one. They happen sometimes and it's no worry unless it happen frequently and she cannot get them out. Having a soft egg is a little uncomfortable for them.

Thanks! I'm excited for this experiment to work...it would be a really neat thing.

Warning picture overload!
Thanks! She is rotten! Normally she will ONLY sleep in her bed... she wasn't feeling good today. Neither of the little ones were... The 3 year old is the greatest at falling asleep in weird places! It was strange for the baby to do it! These are all my middle daughter (she's 3 now)....I have a whole folder of pictures of her sleeping in funny places/positions!

I laughed right out loud at these pics!!!! So sweeeeettttt! That's how my youngest would do too...just tangle up in a pretzel and fall asleep and we'd be thinking, "OUCH. I'd be in serious pain if I slept like that!"

Thank you for sharing!!!!

You can tell she doesn't look good by just looking at her eyes....kids always tell around their eyes when they are fevered and not right.

It is so funny how they each have their own little personalities! My oldest daughter is very emotional and dramatic. My son is ALL BOY, and has a great sense of humor. My middle daughter is a little tornado, and goes until she can't and then you find her piled up where ever she stopped! LOL.... The baby is very quiet and THRIVES on routine, has to sleep in her own bed and won't sleep if we are away from the house, except in the car. It is sometimes hard parenting them, because you have to be VERY adjustable with how you respond to each one of them.

And you are right.... their eyes always give it away!

That's on the highest setting, so I'll be watching if it creeps up so that I can turn it down.

Well I was going to get started with mine in the bator soon to BUT my hens don't seem to have many fertile eggs right now.

I had taken those 2 roos out because the hens backs were naked. Had made them saddles to cover those naked spots so the other hens wouldn't start pecking them and making sores. Then I put #13 back in with them. Was going to sale #1 and had told a friend so if she knew of someone needing a good little RIR roo I had one. I wanted to find him a good home and don't know the folks on the FB page personally so I didn't know who took good care of their chickens and I wanted him to have a good home. He had never tried to attack me or anything. Anyway she and I talked back and forth a bit and she helped me to decide I wanted to keep #1 roo and get rid of #13 roo. So #13 roo will probably go into the pot one day soon once I see how #1 roo does. Since he was the 2nd roo with the other one, I locked up the #13 roo so #1 could be the main roo and he's doing such a good job so far. He's alerted them and is staying with the bunch that stays together. There are some of them that wont stay with the group and I worry they're going to get got. Anyway he's been with them for about 2 weeks now I guess so since they haven't had a roo with them in awhile all eggs aren't fertile. Broke 4 this morning and none of them were fertile. Sure hoping he's not shooting blanks. Anyway I'm going to have to wait a couple more weeks before I incubate the eggs.

Seems like everyone is incubating! I'd never incubate this early in the year if I wasn't just practicing for the real hatch in March. I hope to sell these chicks if any hatch, as I don't necessarily need or want all these chicks. I might keep one of each breed if they hatch but the rest would be sold.

Lindz, beautiful children! I hope today they are feeling better. I understand about the eyes also. I would tell my husband the kids have 'sick eyes'. He would go, 'WHAT?'

Bee, you have 20 days left. You need to get some sleep! I think you will have an awesome hatch!

Lisa :)
