The Front Porch Swing

oh how neat! So excited for you and I know the lady feels good knowing they got a good home. Bless her hear though for having to get rid of them. I have thought about how much I would like to raise heritage RIR's but I am a lil attached to my chickens. lol

They sure are pretty that's for sure! congrats!

I could tell when I was taking them that she was about to get emotional. It was so lovely to meet someone who obviously cared for their birds. These are older birds (about 4 or 5 years old) but I was pleased with the look of them and a hen that goes broody quite often is still needed. According to her, even the little rooster likes to help care for the chicks and I wouldn't mind using him for just a bit of breeding. My tiny frizzle hen needs a non-frizzle man and this little guy looks like he's up for the task, hehe!

I wonder what breed they are, though. She didn't know for sure and there are so many breeds that tend to look like these little guys. I guess it doesn't matter, though. If the chickies do hatch out, we'll have another generation of beautiful birds to add into the flock. Let's pray for a couple more little miracles!

Put my doe rabbit outside and my bucks all around the csge trying to figure out how to get her. Need some pics of them too.
Prayers to everyone who needs them.

Money is gonna be tight for a little while, it seems.

Don't get me wrong; I expected to not have money for awhile since I quit my job (and Thank The Lord I have such great, supportive parents who have taken care of me when I did and didn't have a job). However, I had hoped there wouldn't be any extra expenses which obviously hasn't worked out.

I really don't want to cut into my savings since my student loan payments come out of there.

So, if anyone is interested, I'm painting custom eggs and selling them! I'm trying to sell them locally, but I figured I'd put this out there! After all, Mother's Day is coming up and don't you all want to share your chicken fixation with all your favorite mothers/grandmothers/etc?

The Li'l School House is coming right along!! We tried to reuse things we already had leftover here, but hubby is a bit of a perfectionist so we had to pick up some lumber for the frame and floor. Siding will be some leftover weathered wood from our barn with a white fiberglass roof (also leftover) to let in more light. 4'x4' and will be around 6' at the peak. Roof will go on Wednesday, with the siding done this weekend. Once I get in and paint the floor, I can move this rowdy gang outta here. I am pretty excited about this!!!! No more brooding chickies in the house!!

DH called to tell me he found a soft spot in the hay field. Yep, he buried the Tahoe out in the field. Without the big ole' Dodge, the tractor, the ATV's or really any of the get-you-unstuck equipment. All that stuff is sitting here with me in Wyoming. He used his floor jack, carried out across the field on the zero turn mower the former owner left for us. Along with a bunch of lumber - that had to be many trips on that mower to get it all out there and back. I can see it in my head and LMAO.

Hopefully the neighbors are thinking "yep, he fits in" and not "Oh my gawd, the new neighbors are freaking idiots!"

I might have missed the original 'problem'. Are you saying your DH buried the Tahoe or the people you bought the place from had done so?
Bad idea in either case. And I would watch the transmission on that Z turn. They aren't made for towing even grass collectors.

We went to Lowe's to get the stuff to put in a nipple waterer.... Hubby didn't like the idea of a 5 gallon bucket, so he is going to make a pvc one.

I'm very happy with my saddle nipples in PVC pipe. Don't really need a 5 gallon bucket of water hanging in the coop. There will always be some water dripped out of the nipples because the birds don't catch every drop. Don't need that in middle of the coop either. I have an old chicken trough feeder (I think) attached to the wall under the nipple pipe to catch the drips. No mess in the coop filling the 5 gallon cooler outside the coop that feeds the pipe.

I am moving 30 miles north of Green Bay, 30 miles south of where I grew up.

I will wave in the general direction of your new place next week when we go through, once Tuesday, again Wednesday. Picking up the younger daughter at Beloit College. Drive through Canada is longer but a LOT more pleasant than the 'southern' route on I/90. Went that route when we took her to school last August, stopped to see Niagara Falls on the way. Wife decided going through Chicago once was more than enough times so we came back through Sault Ste Marie. Good thing we hadn't booked hotels yet!

I have a drawing request I hope is simple ... one of those great mechanical sketches you've been doing for each other ...

I need to explain to people (by using a drawing) how to mend some chicken wire fence the chickens have burrowed under. My idea is to add a new layer of fencing ... But instead of the whole width of fencing being ground level or higher, about 1 foot of it is lapped on the ground like an apron or skirt.

This is how the fence was supposed to be done the first time, but they fudged some difficult spots. The flock has found those spots.

Thank you in advance if you can help.

Well, I was working for a print shop for awhile and I did lots of signs, color separations for screen printing and I cut vinyl. Most of my work was with typography. I also did web design but there were quite a few limitations. I prefer to use code but they wanted a WordPress site and didn't want to pay for the theme they wanted. It was very frustrating.

I overworked myself for awhile though, taking care of 30 birds, three dogs and still having a 40hr a week job. Now I'm gonna focus a little on painting. Mom bought three goslings while I was busy this weekend and told me once I got home that she didn't want me to get another job right now. Something about having all these babies (including the four broody hens we all have right now) makes her really nervous about leaving them all alone. I just agreed because my last job choice was kinda horrendous, haha!

Today's haul. Think there's a double yolk in the big brown one. It comes from a skinny little maybe part Maran hen. Called Audrey after Hepburn. She's on top of the compost pile now and I feel like I should check her behind to see if its back to normal. Ha! Still a few running around looking for laying real estate. Why why why are the nesting boxes never as good as a pile of mouldy hay, a grain pan, a wheelbarrow, the far corner of the sheep pen, or under the spiky bushes where I can't reach without ripping my arm off!
