The Front Porch Swing

I let the favored Delaware hen out of her little blue jean apron today. It's a big moment ... for her.

Okay, I tried reading back but we're too active here so I couldn't find where this was first mentioned. Um, I don't get it?

Glad to help.... Some of those WP horses are spur trained... meaning you have to be spur trained as well. For those who are unfamiliar Spurs are used gently with very little movement and as an extension of your leg for communication. this is the proper way to use spurs. same goes for Whips... an extension of your commnuncation signals.

When I rode dressage I rode with two whips occasionally. Till I got good at swapping hands without messin up my reins.

Aprons are used on hens to protect their backs from an over zealous Roo.

OMG this website is hilarious

Thanks...I was afraid I was really losing it here....I try to keep up, but we know how that goes!

And <sigh> We are glad you have your 'puter back too!

Blooie, they have a whole clothing line for shickens....bras for saggy crops, diapers, aprons, legwarmers and even bonnets for cold weather wear. And these sites are making some serious dough, so there must be plenty of folks out there with nothing better to spend their money on. It boggles the mind.

It does indeed. Can't see where many of them would even be useful, well, except for the saddles (I can see where hens would appreciate a little protection from those spurs and nails) and the crop bras....seems some people really think they help with pendulous crops. If it was me and I had a chicken who suffered recurring bouts of that, I think I'd just cull her. Doesn't seem to me that a few eggs a week are worth the additional hassle, worry and expense. But then I'm a cold hearted little booger, as we all know.

Nope...it's called common sense and it ain't so common anymore. I'd cull too. My birds would be out of those clothes in about 2 seconds flat, can't even imagine a bird that would keep on clothing.

Well, I guess it's one of those things where I haven't been faced with any of the problems those things are designed to adress, so maybe I shouldn't have said anything until I get a lot more experience under my belt.....um, not that there's much room for anything else under my belt. < sigh>

One of my two breeding hens in the Delaware trio had a big gash down her side ... this can happen during mating. But I wanted to keep trying to hatch her eggs, so had to leave her with her mates. I put a little apron on her to protect her side. Today I took it off. Here is a photo I took of them earlier this week. The apron is twisted a little to the other side so isn't looking as sharp as it might.

How can you get experience without asking questions.... I ask questions constantly This is want these forums are for.

Now I do happen to like the clothes that are out there for chickens.... OH MY GAWD.... I would never say they were necessary but they certaiinaly do break the ice with folks who have never been around poultry before.

The first :"outfit" i ever saw was a Duck Diaper fitted with a little dress arrangement.... On a Runner duck named Leah..... All pink Gingham and lacy ruffles and a pink leash for her eight year old owner to walk her about the park at a meetup. That duck had been picked up sooo many times in her life she had a resigned look on her beak. Like she would roll her eyes and say.... "What... so your picking me up again... can we try something new?"

deb "off to go see if she can find picures"
