God is good. Please keep us posted on Stephanie!!
GOOD MORNING!!! Welcome to the Front Porch. Please stop by and tell us more about yourself. We love stories and pictures. As you look around we have buckets, swings, rocking chairs, hay bales, and porch railing to sit on. I brought Zucchini/Cranberry/Pecan Bread this morning. There are more sweets over by Miss Bee's rocker. Can I interest you in a glass of Sweetened Tea or do your prefer it Unsweetened? Coffee is brewing, so help yourself to the goodies.

Lisa :)

x2 Alice, you are so welcome!!

Need a marker set page 859, remind me to read back after my internet reloads. Two of my kids now back in usa. We are fine an safe regardless of media hype. Chat soon...prayers to all.

Was just thinking of you and praying for you yesterday and wondering how you were doing. What a blessing your boys got out, thank the good Lord!
I saw another awesome thing this morning. When I got to work this morn, I couldn't get in, long story, but as I was waiting in the hallway, I was looking out the large glass window/door at the end of the hallway, and saw a doe walk past. This is in the back of the college I work at. It is at the edge of town so there is a large open field that goes to a small woods. It was pretty close to the building, so a gentleman that works across the hall was walking to his office and he saw the deer also. Now there is a mound of dirt that is back there, for what reason, I don't know. As we drew close to the window to watch I saw something I thought was a rabbit, come from behind the mound. But it wasn't a rabbit, it was a baby deer!!! It's little legs were a little wobbly as he ventured on what we figured was his first steps. He couldn't have been more that a few hours old!! I don't have a smart phone or I would have taken a pic of it. It was so precious and I felt privileged to witness such a rare occurrence, at least for me. Another blessing! They are all around us if we just open our eyes to see!

Oh, how lovely! I've been waiting eagerly to see some of "our" does with their fawns this year but haven't seen any yet. Doesn't it just make your heart all warm and gooey to see those little babies?

Looking through threads and this seems like a good one. Thought I'd join and say hello

Just popping in for second....Jenny is in Salt Lake with Kendra for casting evaluation, but she should be home this afternoon. They've done her 2.5 year x-rays and there's been no change in the shallowness of her hip sockets. So they told Jen to keep her in her gait trainer as much as possible, keep walking with her, and try to get her to bear weight on her legs at least 50% of her time awake. She goes back in 6 months and if the weight bearing hasn't improved the conformation of her hips then they are planning hip surgery to deepen the socket.

We've had Katiebug with us since Sunday, so we've had a full house! Dustin and Little Diane are using Motel 5 1/2 and Bug has been sleeping on the couch. We've been running all over trying to show Dustin everything that our part of Wyoming has to offer, besides our granddaughter! So I haven't been posting much, nor have I really been reading much - more like skimming! But I figure the Front Porch is like a dessert bar - you can either sit down with a whole plate full of different goodies and enjoy each one to the fullest or take a few crumbs here and there and nibble! I'm at the nibbling stage!

As far as the gentleman who is making passes at your co-worker, Bee's advice was pretty sound as usual. I think I'd just smile sweetly at him and tell him, "How sweet of you to think of me. I've been thinking about your kind offer. My attorney is doing a background check and a running a credit report on you, so I'll make a decision after the results are back."

I agree with the others that brooding so many in such a small space will make you end up resenting the chicks and the extra work, and they might not be too fond of you by the time they go out either! Seems the ideas were flowing so you don't need any more from me.....besides, I don't have one besides brood them outside to start with if at all possible.

Stephanie is so blessed to have your for her family, and what an amazing turnout for her auction. People, I have learned, are pretty doggone good at heart and generous when they're doing it from the heart instead of being told they have to do it. I know that in today's world cynicism is rampant, and there's reasons for that. But I've never lost my faith in the goodness of the human spirit, especially when that human spirit is guided by the Good Lord's spirit. I prefer to focus on that. She is still in my prayers.

Oh, I give up. I can't keep up with it all! I hit the posts that stuck out in my mind and I feel bad for missing some, but until the whirlwind of this week is over I'm afraid it'll be this way - a little nibble here and a little nibble there! Forgive me if I seem to be ignoring the Porch, but in the overall scheme of things my grandkids are firmly where they should be - first.

Welcome, Alice! I'd appreciate it if you'd keep my bucket warm until I get back...it's the one in the corner because I usually spend so much time there.

Charlie is making us crazy! He's learned to crow full out - and he's so proud of himself that he breaks into song whenever the urge hits - which is usually when my eyes are finally closed. Floyd and Speck were intrigued by that wonderful sound so they have joined in. And I suspect one of my Wyandottes is full of testosterone as well. How soon before the Cowley Chorus can be given their tickets to freezer camp? Shouldn't have placed that coop 15 feet from my bedroom window!

Looks like everyone is ready - going moose hunting today. Little Diane and I have a running contest to see who counts the first moose, the biggest, the most and who spots the first baby. Katiebug usually beats us both at our own game but it's still fun to play.

It's good to hear from you and we totally understand!!! Have fun with the Family today, and MAKE MEMORIES!! Thank you for your prayers. They are not taken for granted! I truly appreciate them!

Just put some pinto beans on to cook. What are some of your fav recipes and when do you put your seasonings in? I know there are a lot of good cooks on here!

Well here's a picture of my son about a week or so ago with the ducklings. I'm from Oregon, but meet my husband in, and live, in Northern California.

Yay!!! We are going to pick up our first order (ton) of custom feed today! I can't wait to get started with this feed.
lol.png

I've been communicating with the feed company for nearly 2 years trying to arrange an order, and though I did get somewhat closer during that time, it took a LOT of persistence on my part and I just couldn't get a pick-up date arranged with them. Dad makes one call and we have not just a pick-up date, but an actual pick-up appointment.

Oh, to be 6'3" and have a deep voice and that undefinable attitude that makes every grunt and eye flick an order.

Yep.... been there done that

. Congrats on Dad stepping in, and the feed order. Is this for resale through the co-op? or for your own consumption. 2000 lbs sounds like alot but its not really... Will they be bagging it up for you or delivering it in a big tote. There are NO feed mills within 200 miles around here. And Only one will do Organic. with them too the minimum buy is 2000 lbs but its not a custom order. It comes on a Pallet shipped by freight. It has to be delivered to a local business.... Or the shipping fee is prohibitive and you have to be on hand to accept the delivery.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome! I will have some chocolate chip raisin oatmeal cookies fresh out of the oven to offer up in 8minutes

Yesterday and today I've been baking for my sons lemonade stand this weekend.
A little about me. A year ago my husband and I bought are first house, it's in town, couldn't afford any land
sad.png
But we got three ducks three weeks ago to help keep the slugs down in are yard. We have a four year old son, a dog, cat and the three ducks of course. My son named the ducks Ana, Elsa and Kristof because like all four year olds he is obsessed with frozen. I have a small home daycare and my husband is an electrician. My son is an electrian too, so he tells me, he's a hard worker like his dad.
Pretty much it. Now graving cookies out of the oven!
I welcomed you last night but welcome again.... VBG I am deb and live in San Diego county. My son is 24... I dont have poultry at all right now... LONG story. I used to be a Manufacturing engineer... in a past life. Now I am caregiver for my 97 year old Grandma.

Wow you have a lot on your plate Blooie. Good luck Moose hunting.... So... When and if you bag a moose.... How in the HECK do you get it home. How much meat is on one? I am hearing that some butcher shops have cold storage lockers for people who hunt? do you have one of those?

We use either a ham shank left over from a bone in ham. We put those in the freezer till time for beans. Thats my favorite. Or I use a smoked ham shank because it has more meat than ham hocks. This way everyone gets beans and some tatsty bits. Third choice for me would be ham hocks One big or two small ones.

I use onions sauted in just a little bit of olive oil in the bottom of the pan... Chopped small so they disappear. Then Beans and (meat on bone). I dont soak the beans just put em in to simmer. I dont season with salt and pepper till they are almost done. Keeps the beans together. I taste the juice about an hour before they are done then season. I use granulated garlic too but have to be sparing with it because Grandma is VERY particular about how her beans are cooked.

She was born in 1916 on her family farm in Colorado. Her Dad Farmed Pinto beans....

So they pretty much lived on em most of the year. So cooking method has to be her way or the highway. I added in the onions and garlic. but dont mention them to her and she does like my beans.
