The Front Porch Swing

I would like to ask everyone to send a prayer up for my sister.  She is having a really tough time, odd financial issues, lost 2 babies last year (she was 6 weeks along each time).  She had to put her older boxer down at the end of last year and recently took in her younger one to have gallstones removed, he did great for the first 3 days after and now all the sudden his kidneys are failing so he has been at the vets for the past week and she is not sure he is going to make it.  Please keep her in your thoughts, thank you.

Will do.

I tell ya what! I don't know when I have ever seen it so muddy around here! All the ice and snow has "almost" melted and we have had two days with huge downpours. The ground was soaked beyond capacity before all the rain so the water has nowhere to go. Mud mud everywhere, about sucks your shoes off with every step! Got stuck one time and about fell. LOL

I've seen the two dead baby snakes this winter then today I saw probably 500 geese fly over! In all my years I have never ever seen such around here. You might see a "V" of 20-something or possibly two "V's" but never never ever the sky full of geese! Makes me wonder what is going on because animals can always sense things we can't before they happen. I have been seeing several geese fly over lately. They are all headed north-westish.

Tw, that sounds ominous.

Watch out. And with all the snow and rain I bet it gonna be an awful spring. Flooding and such. I'm on a hill thank God.

Please add my mom and dad to that list, their adopted kitten that had some genetic issues, just suddenly passed away. They are heart broken.

Just did!

At a week, they should have been ok. If you had a lot of snow on the ground during the time you were collecting eggs, they may not have been fertilized. How is your weather now? Is it warming up? If you don't see veins forming you may need a brighter light or a little more patience. They all have brown shells, right? Those are harder to see through but a couple more days ought to tell for sure. If your light is bright enough you need to candle in a very dark room. Pretty soon you should be able to see some movement in there.

Yeah...I wished now I'd never candled in the first place, as I could have blissfully went about this hatch and just dealt with the outcome. Now I'm like everyone else, wondering what in the world is going on in that egg!

I'm going to try hard to do no more candling and just have faith that everything is as it should be.

A friend of mine is married to a commercial Sea Captain. He used to run sport fishing boats out of San Diego here. Every once and a while he would come home with about 200 lbs of Tuna.... They made their own canned tuna one year..... OH MY GAWD.... good. Canned with herbs and Really good olive oil.

TW, were they Canadian Geese or some other kind?

I watched a couple small flocks today heading "north-westish" but nowhere near 500. One was earlier and they seemed to have a clear course of northwest. The second, larger group following maybe 5-10 minutes behind the others seemed like they weren't sure where they were going. They would head west, then north, then northwest. When I first noticed them I figured they were young birds that wanted to be exactly over their familiar landmarks but after reading your post, I'm kind of wondering.

When I did a travel nurse job up in Rhode Island I found out that the canned tuna up there is different from what we can buy around here...it's more fresh, bigger, whiter pieces and even larger cans. It was more like albacore tuna than regular ol' canned tuna. I wish I had thought to buy several cases while I was up there..it just tasted more like tuna than anything we can get here. I can't imagine getting a chance to can my own tuna fresh from the ocean!!!

Where do you guys order your "chicken supplies" from? My local farm supply stores don't have much to choose from at all. A friend of mine works in one of the stores and I so wanted to walk in and ask him if he had "chicken nipples". I know it would have left him in the floor rolling. hehehe Bummer, he wasn't working. Maybe I'll text him and ask him...? LOL
I am in the middle of Uban central.... the nearest Tractor supply is in Bakersfield.... a three hour drive.

Thankfully this is horse country.... Due to the influx of Military we have some really big rodeos on the PRCA and IRA circuit.... So there are feed stores everywhere. Also The San Diego Zoo has satelite breeders around the county breeding All sorts of wild zoo type critters. My feed store I mostly frequent carries everything from Flamingo Chow to Bear Chow.... LOL

any thing I cant find I build as far as equipment.
