The Front Porch Swing

I just feel like when we go camping we have ideas but we kind of see where the day takes us. My son will just sit and dig in the dirt for hours with his toy tractor. I've gone camping every year since birth and it was never so planned out! I mean food was planned but oh my gosh! This is over the top! Then she even has a system for when we can bring the kids stuff out.... can't be all at once, has to be a new surprise every day. I don't get it. I'm like, we will go for a hike and to the water everyday I'm sure. Isn't that enough? I never got board camping as a kid!

Sounds like a job instead of a vacation! lol She would have to take a chill pill if it was me, a handful of them! LOL I have a control freak family member that I quit going on any kind of vacation with because they are the same way (and other reasons). I just can't hack that sort of stuff, no way no how! Hope you and your son enjoy yourselves.

Seems i'm late on a lot of topics discussed here, but since I have now finished reading all the posts, please allow me to put in my 2 cents, I do bring iced tea made with ginger and lemons and honey is an option for the people who like it sweet.

Heartsizedfarm:- beautiful pictures

Topic has been changed but I would not feel ok not mentioning this.
Alice28 allow me to mention that there are some bible verses that forbid gay Lev 18 and 20, its not something the church came up with and I know churches have come up with a lot of stuff to suit themselves.
To me everyone has a right to make their choice that is why God gave us a sound mind.

Deb, that is an awesome porch. Looks like a mansion,

The pics of the mutts how old are they now? they have grown so quick.

All the food talk has made me hungry now. Will be back.

Love you all and don't kick me off the porch

Never! You are stuck here. :)

Deb,

Is that your place in the mountains?
It is beautiful! I would love to have a courtyard.

Courtyards are one of my favorite things.... I had a check list for houses when I found this one... A bizillian things on the list... The only thing I got was the courtyard and 18 acres.

But I have come to love the house as well. In its own way.

When i bought it there were 21 women living there. Part of a Church ministry called Set Free. They were coming out of prison or working to get clean of drugs. The pastor was kind of a scary guy Nice but you knew not to mess with him.... Skin head tattoos mixed with prison tattoos. His wife lived there managing the house.

The place was neat as a pin. There were bunk beds in the living room and laundry room and the art studio as well as the green house room. On the wall in the green house was a schedual posted of a very regumented day. Every five minutes were accounted for. Because there was only one bathroom showers were NOT daily. and limited to five minutes apiece. Smoking was not allowed inside the house and limited to two times per day outside.

They tried to get permitts to build a more official building and set it up like the other Ministries for men up on the mountain. There is one called freedom ranch which I believe is the kind they were trying to set up... Freedom Ranch was for men and they had facilities for probably about eighty AA and NA meetings held four or five times per day.

Unfortunately for them Set Free became the target of a lone woman who turned them into the police probably once per week. The paster had only non committal things to say about her and talked about how hard he prayed for her... One of the gals living there told me they called her the 5150 lady.

I understood the moment I met Mary Donna.... from that point on I kept things cordial but she was scary. And I took to referring about her as the 5150 lady. I shared property line with her. Shes gone now... a whole story in of itself.

So because a church owned my property, they had to sell it for X amount because it was a non profit, or they would have had to pay some sort of tax on it. Due to that I got it for the value of the land.

She didn't use to be this bad. When I first met her she was so fun and amazing. My oldest niece, her oldest daughter, was born with many problems. More and more things over time. She was misdiagnosed and finally was diagnosed with the right thing. Something only 13 people in the world had and it's terminal and there is nothing anyone could do. So they had to just let her die. As my niece got worse and worse so did her moms control issues. She has been getting better (yes this is better) but I can't imagine how out of control her life felt. Months at a time in a hospital, being confined to your home. Not being able to make plans. I think she just wanted control over somthing. At this time I'm not going to argue. Like I said, it's getting better. I can't imagine how she feels when I miss my niece so much. It has to be heartbreaking waking up every day to your daughter not being there. But maybe I'll slip some ashwaganda in her coffee with the alcohol!
*ashwaganda is an herb that is used for adha and helps calm

Wow, Deb!!! That's gorgeous! I love your mosaics!!!

He did the window sills in Cobalt blue tiles and mosaics as well. In the Art studio. He also loved painting on Glass. There is a sliding glass door in the living room that opens out to the Green house Room. He painted a Macaw on that glass. Ihave to figure out a way to preserve it when i remondel.... I absolutely HATE slding glass doors. This house has FOUR.

There is also a painted transom window in the Art Studio above the sldiing glass door. He took the image from the window curtains hung in there. So sad because those curtains are lively and pretty full of blues and yellows and pictures of batik fish and I love them. but they are being killed by the sun.... Sigh.

I have one of those....my oldest son. He gets seriously bent out of shape if folks don't want to follow HIS itinerary when we all go places together. The older he gets the more he feels the need to control his surroundings and those in it, for some reason. I also have a sister like this and it was horribly miserable to go anywhere with her.

Then, if things don't go the way they want them to~even things out of our control~they start acting up...and out...making everyone suffer and become stressed because they can't control themselves. I pity him as he gets older and goes through life in a world that is never under our control. I also pity his wife and child....I've lived with a control freak dad and it has affected our entire family.

A vacation should never have an itinerary....it should be spontaneous, fun and full of adventure and one cannot plan adventure. It's what happens when you are trying to plan your life.

I hate them also....but LOVE french doors. I think every house should have a set of them, if for nothing more than moving furniture and appliances in and out.

Holey cow! She's not that bad anymore! One thing a day planned for the kids and a few day trips planned out is something I can just put up with instead of making waves. If she still felt the need to have every minute mapped out I wouldn't be going. I don't think I could go anywhere with your son! Lol. This is pushing it for me. I like to just do what we do and decide that day.

Yep...this last fishing trip is likely the last we will go on with him as he is getting worse and worse. He has Asperger's but won't admit it or try to deal with it~the part of the brain that deals with self-analysis is the most affected in Aspergers. I had a talk with him before we even left about controlling himself and his temper tantrums for the sake of my aged mother....didn't mean a thing. He still managed to ruin the last day of the trip with his bratness and idiocy....all because the other boys caught fish and he did not. Can you believe that?

Life is going to always be very hard for that boy and has been very hard up 'til now.

I also like Dutch doors. I want a dutch door for my bedroom door to the outside of the house. My bedroom is the former Art Studio. Thereforer there are no closets and no master bath. I want to build an enclosed patio off the Master that will turn it into almost an apartment. With a living area Closet and a Crude master bath. Sawdust toilet and a shower .... Shower to be drained to either french drains or to greywater recycling. All being on ground level with instant access to the yard.

Someone mentioned an outdoor shower.... Definately on my list. I have several different choices for locations.... and I may even opt for more than one.

here is a view from the outhouse (blew down a few years back so I have to rebuild it one day) The mountains in the distance above the green are in Mexico The dog in front of me is a my ex roommates Rhodesian Ridgeback... Goofy dog dug a hole next to the outhouse to cool off so when the winds came in it caused the house to tip over. Next one is going to be a little more "solidly built"...

Because of the wind here doors on sheds tend to depart. pulling the screws for the hinges right out. So My next go round wont have a door at all. Maybe a curtain for those who dont enjoy Alfresco living. LOL.
