The Front Porch Swing

It's a little cool and windy today but we can still sit out on the porch.
I made 2 cherry and 2 rhubarb pies, but 2 of them have to go to the church social tonight. You can help me decide which ones.

LOVE this porch and your view!!!

That view is worth a million! I bet you can see every star in the sky and the most fantastic sunsets there. Chloe makes the perfect porch decoration.

There should be a farm dog or cat on every porch, IMO.

Love your porch... Love craftsman style homes A LOT....

X 2...there is something about that style that just says "cozy and charming".

Sweeetttt!!!!

It took about a week to really notice and they have to take it everyday but it has really helped him be able to calm himself easier. I was totally skeptical but it has worked for us. I'm also looking into oils for hard days where he gets extra wound up! (And me to) I have a good friend who swears by them and just puts lavender in a humidifier. I feel the same way about the stigma. I don't want my son labled "bad" because he's high energy. It will be good later in life. When he's older he will be able to control the energy better, but now it's just a lot! The up side is we can hike for hours and he will just keep going :)

Energizer bunny comes to mind!!

Our front porch...it's not as large as I like a porch to be, but it's cozy and smells like honeysuckle.....not the greatest of pics as I realized I had my flash on when the sun was shining brightly, so everything is overexposed. This is the porch on which we visit, relax and also bring our firewood into. In the winter time we store firewood on it as well.

This is the porch/stoop/entry way where we actually enter the house....as you can see, we've recently added a gate and some deer fencing to its adornment so that we can keep the chickens off it....they like to stand there in the winter time and preen, poop and otherwise cause dirt.

And this is the back porch/stoop with the same chicken deterrents in place....these were added in just the last 3 weeks. This is the door we "work" from....where we keep our work shoes, go up to feed the animals, tend the garden, mow the lawn, etc. It's usually pretty well used looking, but we have it abnormally spruce as we ready for our company this weekend.

And this is the house and its porch that I moved from to live with mother.....loved that house and porch! It had a swing, a settee, a rocking chair and wide banisters for the sitting.....

With a harvest decorating it....

And the views were always spectacular.....

Porches mean a lot to me....they symbolize peace, love and joy in my life, so I always tend to spend a lot of time on the porch if possible, laughing with my family, reading a book while a thunderstorm rages next to me, or just visiting with neighbors.

Wow! Now that is beautiful. :)

Charter schools are done part from home, so I guess that's a yes. But they still go to class a few days a week and have the teachers and class mates. I'm not trying to undervalue the job of a teacher at all! Most do an amazing job, just hard or a one size fits all program to help every kid. My son does preschool three days a week more for social reasons, so that's why I made the suggestion to look into charter schools. That way a kid can do chores, help dad build a fence, go for a hike, do there work and still go to class three days a week. LOVE YOUR THINKING!!!
When I was homeschooling, charter schools started popping up. You are right, part of it is done from the home or by homeschoolers in some cases. Every child is different and have different interests. When you are in public school, the teacher can't teach 30 different ways. That is one of the reasons why I loved to homeschool. Being able to teach and watch the 'lightbulb' come on in their heads thrilled me to no end. Every night was study night for me. I loved every minute of it. I would do it over again in a heartbeat.

Oh Bee, I love both porches. My dream is to have a wraparound porch. Anyway, I am 20 hours away. Hold up the food till I get there! :)

Thank you Shes living the life of a queen with doting servents... LOL. I need to find her a Roomie though for company.
She just turned 20. Her running me over was kind of a last straw for her... and me. After the wreck I was afraid of her on the ground for a couple of years. I worked through it though by taking her and me back to her trainer Julie. I am still not the best on the ground but get me up into the cart and I am a happy camper.

I couldnt afford full training which would have been almost 400 dollars a month on top of board which was about the same. So once we got to the point where I could hitch her myself again I moved her to a closer boarding stable. I was working in San diego at the time. At first we were doing OK but I reallly hated having her just in a 24 x 24 corral. Top it off with the fact that the stable was in a low lying area that was known for having those little flies that pester their ears and tummys.

She developed Allergies to the things and they were eating up her tummy. The vet said it was autoimmune And prescribed a Boatload of stuff for her. Which included a Big Bucket of Horse Benedryl.... LOL. I just figured It would be better to move her out. So when I got layed off at work that would be the best idea to move her home.

So home she went. To her Big Corral and her goats and Guineas and Chickens. I actually treated her with a double dose of Ivermectin then again in ten days... The vet was an idiot. Those little bugs not only chewed on her tender spots they layed eggs and little larva continued the damage. Sweet itch. So the Ivermectin did the little buggers in. shes still an itch girl but no more than she was when I first got her.

I understand that fear. It wasn't as bad as your accident. I got thrown and stepped on when I was in the 7th grade. I drug myself back to the house. Dad made me get back on that horse. He said if I didn't, I would be scared for the rest of my life. I really didn't want to, but you didn't dare disobey. To this day, I have a 'frog' scar on the back of my left leg.

Missed a whole day's worth of chat because I had a shepherding lesson with my dog Jill north of London about two hours there and two hours lesson and then two hours back home. Silly trainer/teacher wouldn't let me check the Porch in the middle of my lesson! I'm pooped. Walking backwards fast takes a whole new set of muscles. At one point I tripped in a fresh cow patty the trainer yelled "watch your dog!" So I forgot to watch my sheep at the same time, lead sheep stepped on my foot, I yelped, they all ran, scattered, I dissolved in helpless laughter. Trainer not as amused as I was.

Deb I love the photo of you driving Katee. She looks so proud and composed there and you so relaxed its hard to believe that that terrible accident happened afterwards. But they are huge horses, and still think of themselves as prey animals so they can take flight in seconds and cause a huge crash. I'm glad she wasn't hurt and that she didn't crush you. And the cart survived! But it's true there can come a point in life where you think Hmmm. I seem to be more breakable at this age than when I was young. Maybe I should cool it on some of the sports and activities I enjoyed back in the day. I don't climb trees anymore! Lol.

Love your favourite porches Bee. The view up that hill mountain? in the second one is beautiful. I can smell the fresh clean air there. And what is the tall tall climber on the first porch? Is that the honeysuckle?
