The Front Porch Swing

400

Having an amazing time! Will catch up whaen I can!

Yesterday was a miserable day for all. Aimee DD owns and operates a dog grooming and boarding place. Yesterday, a tiny yorkie that was boarding got out of the yard. Fort Knox proof. ha $500 just gone. They spent all day driving, looking and asking for info. The owner is devastated of course. First time that this has happened in almost 3 yrs. It will hit pocketbook and reputation. Aimee is so upset because she knows what she would feel like if we lost our little diva poodle like mutt ourselves.
My day was ok until I went out to feed about 4;pm. One of my chickens got out and I thought why not let all of them out for a few minutes and when they come to feed I will shut the door. Well, folks, you know how that turned out.

Not laughing at the time. I bought a fishing net to dip them up and had great sucess with the Golden Comets (dumb as dirt) but the white comets and delawares. The fishing net was 5' long and could land a 70 lb catfish. Boy, I spent 45 min going around and under brush and the coop. Finally got 10 in. So I left the other 4 out. Came back 30 min later to find our cat in the middle of them. I fussed really loud and pointed fingers and he ran like heck.
This time I got another. Went back inside and told Aimee that I'll wait until just about dark and see if I can get them. She was exhausted at searching for the dog all day but still insisted on going out with the net. Got 2 more. and Clint said he would sit out with the net and try to get the last. A few minuted later I saw him on the porch. He had gotten it. Whew. I could barely walk by bedtime and took my meds and passed totally out. This morning, I'm fine and the chickens are very quiet. What a day.

Making a huge pot of beef stew in the slow cooker. Only took an hour to get meat cut up and browned and veggies chopped but it's cooking now. I will feed this pm but I'm not doing a thing else today. Except dishes, etc.

to make them a distant memory.

I hate to come here to complain, but I am STILL having almost daily e-mails with one particular supplier of feed ingredients in which I am asking them (now I'm begging) to send me information on their various products. STILL. It's been 10 days of me asking. I have ZERO information. None.

All I've gotten out of all of this hassle is a potential new egg customer.

Seriously folks, this is a major CORPORATION with a whole FEED DIVISION, and they cannot manage to send one person info about their products.

There is NO product info on their website.

I did some googling, and I found out the name of the guy who is president of the feed division for that company, and I will be calling him directly later today. In the next round of e-mails, I'll be ccing him, too.

I officially have some of the best neighbors!

I got a text this morning from Lisa, my happy neighbor, telling us that she was so sorry but her dog had killed one of our ducklings. The duckling disappeared days ago and I had just assumed a hawk had gotten it. I didn't trust the mother hen anymore and locked the rest away.

I told her no worries, it's just a young Schnauzer puppy, of course it would kill a duckling and that it was our fault because we haven't found an inexpensive way of keeping the chicks/ducklings in the yard. We have such a large yard that it is nearly impossible to affordably put up a mesh or privacy slats on the entire bottom foot of the fence.

Not many neighbors would say anything and they've already had some issues with birds getting into their yard (last year a large adolescent jenny flew into their yard and they had to toss her back, haha) and they've been great about it. I do always apologize and make adjustments. Sending over fresh eggs and herbs always helps! ;)

Now to find a way to repay them for being honest. I'm thinking a fancy painted egg, but I did already give her a one-of-a-kind "Potpourri Egg" that I designed. I wonder how hard it'll be to top that, haha!

Blooie looks like shes enjoying herself. My day is wrapping up and im going to call it a night early. Went out to get a few burgers and it took 5 markets to find enough. Power off again in various areas thankfully not at our house! Got my photos up on my album guess I got a few duplicates oops. But at least its a peek at my place. I took pics of my level I might post later if the site lets me. So much to be done and no storage or closets. I hope to get all my stuff this year. Just need hubby to get it sent.

No Your skills are no different than mine.

I tried some land surveying projects in school and I never got used to the terminology. I really wanted to give GIS a try. But couldnt grasp the process well enough. This was back in 2000 when I decided to go to ITT Tech and get an associate degree in Drafting and Design. There were two areas that I struggled with. GIS and a stupid animation program that I have since wiped from my memory.... I also worked contract jobs which are notorious for having revolving doors. I worked many jobs simply because i wanted to stay in one place. I think the longest I ever had a job in my life is four years...

I personally would love to get into Landscape design. Lots of hand drawn and a few CAD drawings would be perfect for me. but I simply cant do the walking about. For me drawing conversion Can be done With a scanned in drawing sent by email or through a file share service. All I need is 11 x 17 and a clear picture. Places like Kinkos can do the scan for you turn it into a file and you are off and running.

The other deal is some places have only printed Vellum. With their title block border zones and Revision block. for the first page then an abbreviated title block for the second page. Sometimes just recreating a CAD version of their title block takes as much time as a full on drawing.

Back in 1990 I charged a flat rate for drawing conversions. Depending on size and complexity as well as whether it was a straight conversion or If I had to do form fit and function checks.. So there were no surprises when the my job was done. That was my selling point and will be again. This way if it took a bit longer than my estimate no one would get antsy. Of course I met dead lines but usually the job would estimate at about 8 hours a sheet.... When it really only took me four.... Well you get the idea.
