The Front Porch Swing

Gathered eggs today and the pullet eggs have increased in size now until they are regular, beautiful large eggs.  I love the richness of the colors and I love learning new eggs from new hens.  It takes time and some I never learn but quite often I learn who lays what egg and can count on their eggs looking the same pretty much all their lives except for some changes when they get old in shape or speckle pattern.

Watched some sad movies tonight and cried like a baby, as usual.  I wish I could control that but I never could...it has provided my kids with much amusement over the years.

Anyone else boo hoo over sad movies, books or commercials?  I always have and it has been an embarrassment to me many times but I can't seem to control it..it just happens.

Hi bee kissed, another shout out from Texas!! I was wondering where Lisa got herself odd too-she's on your porch!

Bryan's song...best movie ever and I cry every time.

Hey!! Another Lone Star child!!

Glad to have you! I've never seen that movie but heard it's very sad. We are trying to imagine the day is sunny and warm and we are all sipping cool drinks on the front porch, swapping stories and pictures....just to make the winter less cold.

Bee... I need something HOT! I am FROZEN! We processed 9 chickens today.... in the SNOW! It was about 38* when we started and about 25* when we finally gave up. (We had 14 planned) After the first 3, we had to give up on scalding/plucking because the feathers were just freezing before we could get them off! We just skinned the rest. This was my first actual processing day, and it wasn't as bad as I was afraid it was going to be. I now have 5 fresh chickens to go into the freezer tomorrow! (I've heard to rest them for a day or two before freezing/cooking?) Anyway... Although it was cold, it was extremely beautiful today! I was able to take my birds to a friend's house, who lives in the county that I grew up in. I always love going back up the mountain, as that is where my heart really is!
Gorgeous

There's something about the mountains that gets in your bones and won't let you go. Whenever I'm away from them it's like an ache in my soul that doesn't let up until I see them again. My eyes just yearn for that sky line, I can't help it. It must be similar to how people feel about the sea or the plains when they are born there and grow to love a certain horizon.

Here's a girl that needs some love and prayers, so could you all speak for her?  Sometimes when you hurt this bad you just have no words left for prayer, so was wondering if you guys could pray for her.  I think her name is Ashley.

I will keep her in my prayers. It seems that sometimes you end up flat on your face before you can reach up for the hand that was there to pull you up all the time.

I read the 'help my ... Is sick!!' Forum sometimes and I got good and interested in one thread where this woman had her chickens just dying left and right. She was stumped and trying everything but nothing was working. In the midst of the thread (she had numerous kind souls giving her advice and support, she takes her husband to the dr as he wasn't feeling good and came away with a cancer diagnosis. In the middle of everything. I don't know her but I find myself lifting her up at the strangest times. Her chickens are still dying. No telling how many she's lost so far. Heart just hurts for her.

I think I read that thread! I was hurting for her too and also prayed for her. I've found that if you are not rock solid on faith those times in life can just beat you down to nothing and even if faith is strong, it can still beat you down, though not so that you are hopeless and helpless. It takes a lot of prayer during those times to just let it go and let God handle all the tough things and sometimes one just doesn't know how or what to pray. That's where we come in.

Absolutely!! Often it helps me put my life in perspective when I can hear the burdens of others.

I loved Brian's song with James Caan and Billy Dee Williams. It is a tearjerker. I am here waiting on you with a box of kleenex and a glass of ice cold tea!

I know, right? I can just imagine riding a horse back to that barn after a long ride to the base of the mountains and back. I love, love, love our Blue Ridge mountains!

Bee, I didn't know you lived around the Blue Ridge Mountains. My family moved quite a bit when I was growing up. We lived in Waynesboro, Virginia, at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Guess where I left my heart???

Lisa :)
