This January while youguyts were surviving blizard after blizzard we were seeng temps up around 90 ish. In San Diego which is a Mediterranean climate we have been experiencing drought for the last twenty years. Two HUGE fires blew through here, One in 2003 and one in 2005 Straight through the back country and through residential.... This year has been the lowest rainfall ever recorded for San Diego county. Thankfully we have already been conserving because. All our reservoirs are down what looks like abouty 40 feet from looking from the freeway.

A friend of mine is married to a commercial Sea Captain.  He used to run sport fishing boats out of San Diego here.  Every once and a while he would come home with about 200 lbs of Tuna....  They made their own canned tuna one year..... OH MY GAWD.... good.  Canned with herbs and Really good olive oil.

That's the BEST! Some of our friends are fishermen. They get salmon and tuna hat I've been buying for a few years. We traded turkey for tuna this year. I just portion it up and freeze it. But I should learn to can it.

I would like to ask everyone to send a prayer up for my sister.  She is having a really tough time, odd financial issues, lost 2 babies last year (she was 6 weeks along each time).  She had to put her older boxer down at the end of last year and recently took in her younger one to have gallstones removed, he did great for the first 3 days after and now all the sudden his kidneys are failing so he has been at the vets for the past week and she is not sure he is going to make it.  Please keep her in your thoughts, thank you.

Please add my mom and dad to that list, their adopted kitten that had some genetic issues, just suddenly passed away.  They are heart broken.

Tw, that sounds ominous.    Watch out.   And with all the snow and rain I bet it gonna be an awful spring.  Flooding and  such.  I'm on a hill thank God. 

For real! All those geese looked like a scene from a scary movie! "The Birds II, Quack Attack!" I guess. LOL

My biggest coop is under a 18X21 metal roof. Yesterday it was fairly wet then today I went in there and ohhhh my gosh! I need about 2-3 pickup truck loads of bedding! lol I'm going to have to find some and pile it in there - make it deeeeep litter. As soon as it dries up much at all I am going to have to dig a trench around that coop/run to TRY to keep the spring monsoon rain out of there. And we are expecting thunderstorms in a day or two, oh joy! ...and tornado season is just about here! lol

TW, were they Canadian Geese or some other kind?

I watched a couple small flocks today heading "north-westish" but nowhere near 500.  One was earlier and they seemed to have a clear course of northwest.  The second, larger group following maybe 5-10 minutes behind the others seemed like they weren't sure where they were going.  They would head west, then north, then northwest.  When I first noticed them I figured they were young birds that wanted to be exactly over their familiar landmarks but after reading your post, I'm kind of wondering.

Usually we see Canadians fly over and sometimes they even land in our pond. They have raised babies out there a couple of times. These were so high up I couldn't really tell what they were. They looked lighter than Canadians but I really couldn't tell. I had gone out to feed the chickens this afternoon and heard them and I always stop and watch them. I finally saw the first bunch then right behind it was another. I thought, DANG! That must be a hundred geese! Then they just kept coming and coming, some more out of the west and some more southwest but all headed north-eastish. Plumb dang freaky I tell ya! I have seen geese flying over that same direction all winter. One time was during that cold cold weather, made me wonder how in the world they could fly in that sub-zero air and even worse wind chill factor! Close to a week ago I heard at least one in the field across the road in front of my house. It was dark but it was doing its call thing, never seen that either.

Dang I feel for you guys. Fire is so scary!!! I saw on the news a few weeks ago about yalls fires and drought. I thought then that it would be nice if we could send you guys some water because we had plenty of it then. This country does have weather extremes from one end to the other. I HOPE you guys see better days soon.

I am in the middle of Uban central....  the nearest Tractor supply is in Bakersfield....  a three hour drive.

Thankfully this is horse country....  Due to the influx of Military we have some really big rodeos on the PRCA and IRA circuit....  So there are feed stores everywhere.  Also The San Diego Zoo has satelite breeders around the county breeding All sorts of wild zoo type critters.  My feed store I mostly frequent carries everything from Flamingo Chow to Bear Chow.... LOL

any thing I cant find I build as far as equipment.

We are in farming country - lots of row crop, commercial chickens, and quite a few pigs & cattle, few goats, etc BUT very few small time chickens keepers. But I have noticed that chickens are making a comeback. In the past several years you hardly ever saw a home flock. Now I see quite a few. We even have a TSC but they didn't have chicken nipples either. BUT that gave me an idea... I could order some, install them on the buckets and possibly sell some...? Everybody makes fun of me for always trying to make money on something. LOL
