The Front Porch Swing

Thanks for the warm welcome Perchie.girl and Windy Bay Farm.

I wish I could help with the pot roast recipe. For some reason we don't eat that very often

My husband pretty much does all the cooking. He wasn't too impressed with my hockey puck pork chops I made him when we first started dating way back when, lol. He ate them, but years later loves to tell the story of "how he knew he'd be doing the cooking when he had to saw through the chops". But he loves to cook, so its a good match.
My Mom used to make a killer pot roast, but I never paid any attention while growing up.

LOL... No sweat the others were just talking about coffee roasted pot roast.... I may try that tonight in the crock pot.

I learned how to cook out of self defense.... Grew up with a mom who could burn the same pot of beans twice.... Pork chops were always burned.... and sometimes she would cook "Rack of Weenie" for dinner. Dad was one of those mazing cooks that when Mom would whine that there was nothing in the house for dinner.... He would get in the kitchen and pretty much empty out the refrigerator and come up with some of the most amazing meals.

He did teach her some though.... Okra breaded and fried in bacon drippins, Big pot of Mustard greens and Salt-pork. But dont give her fish to cook.... EEeeewwww... only if you want a translucent mush that smells strong in a bad way.... Or liver that you could patch a car tire with.

Did meet one very wonderful friend right here on BYC and now she's my bestie! I've never spoken to her on the phone nor have I even met her but she has been more of a friend to me than any physical friend I've had since grade school. We talk via email and on here and through snail mail. Her screen name is Loveigee and I met her on the Road Less Traveled thread....she is a keeper!

Wow, I found your thread and started at page one. I'm so tempted to skip to the end....

My life is sooo dysfunctional and the really bad part is that it has almost become normal to me! LOL I know about those bad relationships that you really need to get away from. I have one person in my life that is like a cockelbur in my backside. I don't have a big circle of friends either. I talk to all of you more than I do anybody ...and I'm fine with that. I really am thankful for all of you guys. :)

Quote: LOL.... Thank you. The industries I have worked in have huge revolving doors. If you have heard of the Peter principle.... I was the victim of that somewhat. ""every employee will rise or get promoted to his or her level of incompetence "" but I believe it was their perception of me not my actual limitation. Because I wasnt technically an Engineer.

These days job descriptions are written by freaking bean counters.... and Marketing managers... and someones ""perception":" of what the real job entails.... instead they want to put out there catch phrases.... Where a job really requires a good draftsman with design capabilities they ask for a Design Engineer. And require a four year degree in engineering plus 10,000 hours on a certain software that is proprietary..... Used to be a Design engineer title was a 100k a year job. Now they get a third of that.

What I want is a job where I can do alot of drawing a little bit of design and solve some engineering problems occasionally. Work for a mom and pop operation and maybe have one other draftsman there to work with. I could do a job like that on a part time basis. And make the company money.... alot of money.

I will try again when Grandma doesnt need me any more.

or left the car unlocked with the keys in the ignition.... It all doesnt matter. I was distracted and made grievous errors. The police even asked if I had any friends that might try to Punk me.... scuse me?

I just about sobbed when i told them I had no friends. I am 59 My last job let me go.... The friends I knew were there. I rarely socialize outside of work. The only "peeple" I have are My Son, My Mom, and My Grandma.

Deb!!! I am with Triple Willow! That is what is so neat about this forum. We are friends and we all have broad shoulders for each other. Not many folks will take care of their family and I think it is pretty awesome that you care for your grandmother! I hope you will find work soon.

Hi from Vermont! I'd love to pull up a seat on the porch if there's still room

I've got some hot cider with/without rum to warm us up with yet another "polar vortex" creeping in.
I am dreaming of warm sunny days......
I've been reading the posts, figured I'd jump ahead and ask to join and go back and read some more.
Hope to make some new friends and continue to learn from all of you.
Thanks
