The Front Porch Swing

So what is the story behind this skunk ? We are dying to know!
Nothing really :p I trap and I set all of them last night and I checked it this morning and there it was. But I was dumb enough to mess with it. lol I have been trying for coons but all I have been getting are oppusoms. So this was a nice surprise when I found it!

And a question for BK: Just exactly what were you up to in the 70s to inspire that big grin?

I was in grade school for most of it! The music was the best in the 70s, the summers were longer and everyone was more innocent. Kids actually went outside and played in large groups, TV only had 2 channels and we never watched it much, the food was better, pop was just better and actually quenched your thirst. The cars we were driving were from the 50s-60s, which were the golden era of big, can't die engines and cars that were built like tanks, gas was cheap, and so was candy.

Near the end of the 70s my folks went back to the land and we homesteaded for the next 12 years, no utilities, no running water, good and simple living, hard work, healthy foods and lifestyle and a lot of learning.

Yep...the 70s were the bomb-diggity for me!

Oh BTW guys I am going to get my skunk stuffed!

I don't blame you...what a wonderful conversation piece and something with which to pull many a wonderful prank down through the years. Excellent!

My oldest hen, Fanny, is acting a bit off these past few days. She should have been culled last year due to not laying steadily but she's such a hoot that I put it off. Then I was going to cull her when I did Toby, but she got out of her ropes and I took that as a sign it wasn't her time yet.
Bummer, I was on page 67 of the road less traveled.

I'm pleased to report the Old Time custard recipe works just as well with 12 chicken eggs & whole milk as it did with 6 duck eggs & skim milk. The whole milk/chicken egg version has a little "water" on the bottom, but that's also yummy.

I've got to make that custard...it just sounds too yummy. I made the coffee pot roast, yum! Can't remember if that was this thread or the recipe thread. Losing my memory....

Okay dinner tonight, will be on the rotation:

Ranch dressing seasoning, mixed with 1/2 cup of sour cream and 1/2 cup on milk
Pour that over some chicken breast (about 1.5 lbs) let that sit for at least 40 mins (to soak)
Fry some bacon (however much you want, I used 6 strips)
After you pull out the bacon, strain some of the grease but leave some with the "bits" in the pan.
Crumble bacon on top of chicken
Pop in the oven
Okay here is where I messed up a bit, I think 400 for 25-30 mins would work, I did 375 for 30, then 400 for 5 and it was a little over cooked. After you pull it out, let set for 5 mins (it looks a lot worse than what it taste

While that is going on, throw some fresh green beans in your pan with the bacon grease, add salt, pepper, and garlic to taste. Saute them with a lid on top for about 20 mins or until desired "cookedness". I like mine pretty soft but not mushy.

Serve hot

Sorry for the odd directions, came up with this myself tonight, it evolved as I went along.

I would not feed this to guest, only because the the way it "looks", if you make it you will understand, but my super picky DH LOVED it, his comment was "Wow, this taste a ton better than it looks". Then I was asked by my super picky son, to "add it to the meal plan". My DD and I are the only ones in the house that will eat pretty much anything, I have the "booty" to prove it, working on her so she does not.
