We are lucky in the fact that we can do a lot of the work ourselves. DH knows plumbing, electrical, rough framing. drywall, tiling, etc. We could probably build a house by ourselves, except for the county requiring certified professionals to do everything in order to pass inspections. I trust his work over some of the "Pros" out there nowadays. He has fixed so much on our current house that the pros did half-assed. Only one valve in the entire water system - and that was right after the pressure tank. In order to pull the toilet to paint the bathroom, we had to turn off the water to the entire house.

No reason the "Pros" should do the work unsupervised. Besides, a helping hand should make the work go faster as well.


Laundry ... Gotta love it.
My son was taught to do his own laundry at 10 yrs. old, as well as to clean his own bathroom, Also, how to cook and change oil in the car. He can sew too.

Although he was my only at that time, I thought it was in his best interest to train him in all things. Its harder and takes longer to train a child than to do it yourself though.

I became paranoid about that because I was told I'd poison the birds (

) or turn them into egg eaters (

). So I bake them first. THEY say it leaves the calcium but kills the "germs."

Let's think about this rationally for just a mo'.....killing the germs that came out of the chicken that they are then feeding the shells to. THEY are clearly not thinking this through. I'm thinking the germy eggs that came out of the germy chickens can be safely consumed with the germs intact as the chickens already have those germs they are putting into the germy egg shells. Just a thought.....

Let's lay the paranoia aside and free you from that stinky, laborious chore.

Just say NO to THEY!

Hey. Don't pee on my parade! I'm doing something that makes me feel good. It's a HUGE blessing in my life to do that, even if it is irrational.

When I heard the "germ theory" from some "poultry expert" in some thread here at BYC, I told him, "If an chicken's egg is too germy for the chicken to eat, I think maybe the chicken has bigger problems than I can fathom."

Regardless, baking eggshells makes me feel a tiny twinge of pride.

Surely that must resonate ...

YEah - Parties always seem like such a great idea and so fun. That is, until I actually have to go. Then they seem ilke such a waste of energy and time. Ugh.
