The Front Porch Swing

Here is what we got yesterday:

This is what happens when the snow clouds are too low and we end up enveloped by them. I could see the moisture swirling through as fog as the storm moved through, It will take a couple of days for the woodpile to defrost. Good thing I loaded up the house before the storm rolled in.

Out here, they call that pogonip. I believe the translation is "white death." Very beautiful but I wouldn't want to be caught out in it.

Is that the results of what they call a White out? I have heard about them..... sooo many particles in the air youcant even find your way twenty feet from the house. Old time farmers used to run a rope from the house to the barn sothey could tend the animals.... Its pretty but it must be freaking cold to do that.... Right?

deb
I think a white out is when they have horizontal snow and its snowing so hard that you can barely see the road to get home. That's when you pray for a snowplow to follow.

The last time it snowed here I took my boyfriend out on the front porch so we could listen to it snowing. Traffic was at a standstill on the interstate. The silence was over whelming. Mike had never heard snow falling before. He is a city boy.

Standing there listening to the snow falling made me realize how badly I need to go back to WV...........
Isn't it wonderful? So quiet and peaceful. I imagine most people never even considered that you could actually hear it.

I've never seen anything like this! Are they really able to work themselves down into the soil? Are the plants they are from large, or like tumbleweed?
Quote:
No they are more like a grass. Yes they work themselves down and they do it quick! I would pick them and put them on my hand, then let the sun hit them and away they would go. Would get stuck in your cloths really quick.
They can also get stuck in a dog's fur and wreak a lot of havoc! I thought it was unclear when deb said the seed was about half the size of a dime, and though she is correct, I guess I consider the whole thing the seed as they are pretty well attached. The whole apparatus is probably just over an inch long.

Bee I'm 51 and have had long wavy hair forever because I just don't know how to work with a short cut. I've never colored my hair not once and I've told my girls that when the gray comes they are just going have to deal with it. I've been really blessed with late graying (I see a few strands every now and then and yank em out). But I won't spend the money nor the time on that which God has blessed me with!!
My mother always told me that if you pull out a gray hair, that seven more will take its place. Don't know how true that is, just thought I'd share.

Hey, everyone.....Texas Lisa just got home from church to find a chicken massacre. Please pray for her right now, as we all know how devastating it is to come home to something like that....just gut wrenching.

Oh Lisa, I'm so sorry. Was it dogs do you think? I hate dogs this week.

Nope the seed you see there is about half the size of a dime. the acutal plant is maybe two to five inches tall covered in flowers that eventually make what looks like a storks head, when the petals fall off. the nthe storks head splits into five strips the length and the strips curl as they dry. Once they come off the plant The action of dew in the morning and trying during the day cause the spring to unfurl.... It unfurls an contracts over and over and in about three days the seed is in the ground. The long whip like end keeps the whole thing from turning.... Pretty ingenious design for sure. deb
Holy moly!!! That is amazing!!!

Bee and Triple Willow, I've been praying for you today.  May God give you His peace.  I'm always sad to hear when people in churches don't reflect God's love to others.
Thanks. I don't hold it against all church folks. One time a friend of mine was going through a horrific time and most of his Christian friends turned their back on him. He said he was praying about it and he sensed the Lord say to him, "I never told you that they wouldn't leave you or forsake you, but I won't."

It sounds like quite a few are experiencing difficult weather today.  Stay safe and hopefully the sun will come out tomorrow and warm up for you.  It's staying cold here in Saskatchewan, but at least the sun was out today.
We are having "slushie weather". LOL A few inches of slushie sleet on the ground!

Looking at the pictures of the jackrabbit and reading about the peace and quiet in the country around San Diego warms my  heart.  I have also experienced being out where there are no "man made" sounds and remember the peacefulness and stillness.  Good to remember times like that in the middle of winter!  Some nights when I come back from the barn after my last check, I stand and look up at the stars and the moon and sometimes the northern lights, and feel so small.  The crunch of the snow under foot and the cold air in my lungs feels so clean.  Often the silence is broken by the hoot of a snowy owl and when the coyotes start singing, I hurry for the house :) .
Beautiful! :)

Thank you for sharing your friendly porch with me.  You are a wonderful group of people!

Boy you all have left me behind today! I'm on page 197, but I can't keep my eyes open to keep reading... We worked on the new coop all day, and let the kids play outside all day...They had a blast jumping on a pile of feed sacks filled with leaves! Temps in the 60s today, and expecting snow and sleet tomorrow! Here's a few pics from my day! Oh, and the girls laid another 14 eggs today!

"Look Mommy! It's my size!"

A couple weeks ago a woman I use to go to church with asked me if I was in church anywhere and when I told her no she kind of "tisked" me with her attitude. I thought to myself how many Godly friends I have right here that I can call on any time to stand with me in prayer... I almost felt sorry for HER! LOL I do hope to find a good church and be able to attend regular again someday. A good church is a wonderful thing. *But ACTUALLY we have a church right here!*
you got that right TW and we don't see each other boobs and up each others clothes here either like we do in church. Yep HUGE pet peeve of mine and I just have problems with going to church where women dress like this and it's gotten really bad. The clothing is sooooo tight you can see the print of their panties and see the crack of their butts and everything. I can't help but wonder what God thinks because of us suppose to be dressing modishly. When a preacher has to tell his congregation of women they need to cover their tops up because he can't pray for them at the alter for seeing down their clothes then something is bad wrong. :( OK I am off my soap box.

Yeah we are being judged because we don't go but that's between us and God. :)
