The Front Porch Swing

Such optimism! Congrats on the job, wishing you the best!
I had a job that I applied for - basic entry level drafting, and wound up getting an engineering position that they rewrote for me since I am not an engineer. Much higher paying than I was expecting. Loved that job.

I see earrings with those little eggs. So tiny!

Good luck with the chicks in the brooder, hope you get that straightened out.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! Michelle. It's only getting better.

What a pretty dog! What breed is he?
He is an English Setter.

I am pretty sure he will be good with chickens. We have a pair of bluebirds that nest in the roof of the dog house. The birds fly right over the dogs head, land right in front of him and everything. He hardly even glances at them. I did watch him point a robin all the way across the dog yard. Bird would walk about 4 feet, dog would advance 4 feet, bird would get 4 feet ahead, dog would move up 4 feet ... all the way across the acre that is fenced. He will bark and chase the ravens, though I believe the ravens start it, they sit on the roof and raise a racket until the dog barks at them.

We have a wild bunny that lives under the doghouse also. He actually barked and chased it about 10 feet yesterday. Bunny about had a heart attack - sure didn't expect that and didn't know where to run to. ha ha

It will be interesting to train him on them....I really like training dogs, though it's not something I'd want to do on a full time basis, it's kind of fun to see how quickly they can catch on.

We couldn't go to the feed store today, so we are going tomorrow. Another chick died today, so I'm going to open up the brooder and see what's going on. I might need to replace the box I was using for them. I'm gonna see if I can find a huge box and just fill it with shavings and use a red heat bulb instead if a normal lightbulb. It'll be harder to maintain the temperature, but I think the humidity won't be as bad.
Thank you!
Happy birthday!

I got called around 10PM today and found out something really spectacular.

I was hired as the lead graphic designer at a local print shop! I start working Wednesday, 40 hours a week! I thought I was only going to get a part time job but heck, I've never worked full time before! I'm pumped! So many exclamation points!

Mom is concerned about the flock now that I'll be working so many hours, but I can handle work, chickens and bring about world peace if I put my mind to it.

That's going to be so fun! I love to create, but to get to do it as a job would be so fulfilling.

What's going on with your chicks? I must have missed something....this thread moves too fast!

Mine will be in lock down on Sunday. Going to candle them one more time then and trying to decide IF I want to place them in egg cartons to hatch or leave them lying down in there. I KNOW I will want to remove the hatched ones if they are tumbling the other eggs around and don't want to mess up with the humidity by removing the lid. So I am trying to decide what to do before lock down.
It is a good idea to put them into egg cartons, just cut the bottom out of the carton cells for air circulation. That way the hatching chicks can't roll them around and cause damage.

Hehe! My sister asked me to keep her cockatiel for awhile and she's laid a couple eggs. My sister told me to blow them out and paint them, so now I'm gonna have a couple super fancy (and small) eggs. They are actually next to some game bird eggs, which tells you how small they are, haha!
That's so awesome! I'm glad you are starting out your flock anew. The chicks look so cute!

Someone else said it too, and I'll repeat it... I see earrings!

And super congratulations on that job! Wowee! REALLY SPECTACULAR!

Thank you for all your compliments! I've been so lucky to find some people who truly love the eggs I paint. It is rare to find someone, however, who will see these eggs and love them the way I do as I paint them. It's a gift to feel that sort of kismet. That's why I prefer to do personalized eggs for people. They order it and I try my hardest to portray their vision.

I've thought about eBay, but I think I prefer for everything to be super personal. People on eBay are essentially bidding in something and for all I know, it'll be an impulse but that will end up in a box tucked away in their closet. These little eggs really need to be appreciated. I know, it's silly. I'm just weird, I guess, haha!

Having a conure egg to paint would be so cool! Mom and I were laughing today because we were playing of a game of "Which of These Things is Not Like the Other".

Oh I want those cockatiel eggs painted and made into earrings =). You do gorgeous work and I feel your pain about your art WORK not being appreciated. People just don't understand or seem to care how long it took you to do something.

Lol ok Bee ill look into it but at some point it stops being a silhouette. =)

Sorry to hear all the problems people are having but glad to hear some good things also.
