The Front Porch Swing

Hey Blooie, got time for a grandbaby story? In about 2009 our oldest daughter was informed that she and her husband would never be able to have children.. They were devastated. They tried everything to become parents, and finally applied to DHS to become foster parents hoping that they might be able to adopt a child. It was only a few weeks and they received a telephone call informing them that there was a little 3 month old baby boy that had been rescued from a drug addict mother and was in very poor health. The kids were told that there was a VERY good chance that this baby would be up for adoption fairly quickly. Within minutes they were at the DHS office getting the baby and me and Grandad was in the car headed to their house to see our new grandbaby. We were all so excited and he was so precious and beautiful to us. They called him Bo. I was a little apprehensive, our youngest daughter had already given birth to our first grandson and I was unsure that I could love Bo as much as I did Branson. But soon after arriving at our daughter house and she handed me that baby all doubt was gone. I was in love and I knew there would never be any difference in loving the two boys. As the months rocked on no natural family member came forward to claim custody of Bo and things were going good. It was one week before Christmas and we were all excited with buying presents for the two boys and then the dreaded phone call came. Bo's maternal grandparents had came forward and said that they felt that he was old enough now that they could care for him. OLD ENOUGH NOW ?????......I would have gave my life for this little Bo seconds after I held him and they had made the decision to wait almost a year before even coming to see him. HOW DARE THEM. But in the eyes of the law they had all the rights and we had none. So one week before Christmas they took our little Bo and had denied us any future contact with him. I can not even describe the pain we all felt, and I was so worried about my daughter she went into a deep depression. The only thing I could compare it to was the death of my parents. To us it was like he had died. But God with all His wonderful mercy and love brought comfort. A few months later our younger daughter gave birth to their second son Triton and within 2 months our oldest daughter received "the call" again and there was a little 2 year old girl that WOULD be up for adoption and within 6 months Laney Grace was adopted. Soon after that another call and DHS had 2 siblings a 2 year old boy and 2 month old baby girl. Soon Jerod and Carly became grandchildren #4 and 5. So within 2 1/2 years we went from no grandchildren to 5 grandchildren. We also have a foster granddaughter that we are still unused of the future outcome. We can only pray for God's will and accept what ever He has planned for "stinkbait" (we are not allowed to use her name on any internet site) so we just call her stinkbait. So even though the loss of Bo was a tragedy to us, God knew Bo had someone that would care for him (eventually), but our little Laney, Jerod, and Carly had NO ONE to care for them and they needed us but not as much as we need them. So Blooie that's my Nana story. Sorry it was so long...... I will end this story with this thought. INK IS AS THICK AS BLOOD. Adoption or natural born makes no difference to a grandparent we love all just the same!

Your story made me cry with joy and gratitude for the love of God for His children and for people like you all who show His love to children who need you. I just prayed for blessings upon your family and on all your pathways, may they all lead you closer to the Lord on this journey.

I so wanted to do just what your daughter is doing...foster kids who had no one. I still have so much mothering in me to give...but the Lord had another job for me to do, little did I know it. Now I know my job and have settled into it but I still yearn to love the kids that have no one to love them....there are so very many. Bless you all!

The power of this group is amazing! Thank you all for your support. and for helping me begin to regain my faith.
Our offer has been accepted - and baring any unforeseen problems - we are buying a house with a bunch of farm-buildings on 25 acres.
I am offering extra seating on my-soon-to-be front porch. :)

That is such EXCELLENT NEWS! So happy for you! And that is a beeeeuuutiful porch! Woweee! The Lord is certainly good. All those other possibilities just weren't good enough for the desire of your heart. So they didn't want to sell you 10 acres, they sold all of it for what you offered? That is so wonderful!

Love those quotes!

Wyodreamer, that is AWESOME! God is great, isn't he??? Now comes the fun of moving and making the house a home. I love the porch too. Can't wait to come visit!

And my all time favorite, courtesy of my dad. I had just received an award and was a little hesitant to brag about it. Dad said, "He who doth not tooteth his horn oft doth not getteth his horn tootethed!"
I have to send that to my niece.
She is a freshman in college - worked her skinny little butt off and won a Deans Scholarship which is 4 years of college tuition- including dorm. She wrote a paper for one of her classes and has been selected for an all-expense paid trip to Washington to be recognized for it. She is trying to brush it off as no big deal, however my sis is "tooting" her daughters horn for her.

Sorry, Blooie - I have been in Wyoming for 7 years and am now moving back to Wisconsin.

Ooh, thanks for such a warm welcome!! You might well regret asking me to tell more stories. LOL I remember when we lived in Tennessee, then in Mississippi (so why do those states have so many double letters?) one of my favorite "nights out" included fresh catfish, hush puppies, and sweet tea! We can order sweet tea here, too, but it just doesn't taste the same as it did down South...

I'm glad I didn't drive everyone off the porch with my long story. LOL I do tend to get a little verbose - it's the writer in me I guess. When I was little I stuttered very badly. My wonderful stepdad, who later adopted my sister and me, told me, "Sis, you just get too excited when you talk. When you have something to say that you think is important, why don't you write it down? I promise I'll read it." And he did. Writing things out helped slow my brain down so my fingers could keep up, which in turn helped me learn to slow my speech speed, all but eliminating the stuttering. So it's all Dad's fault!

Chime in! If you have chickens, ducks, puppies, kitties, horses, goats - whatever - and you take care of them then that makes them family, so they count! I got that Nana has 6, and Lisa has grandkats and grandchicks. I have 3 kids and 6 grandkids. I still count Austin - he might not be here physically but his grandchild status is safely locked in my heart with the others, and one new great-grandson (Landyn) who will be a year old on the 24th. I also have Jamie's amazing wife Rachel and Austin's young widow Joy.

I have Easter Eggers (Evan can't wait to go to school and tell the kids he DOES like green eggs and ham!), Golden Laced Wyandottes, and Red Stars. They're two weeks old today. I passed on the birthday cake for them and they happily settled for finely chopped apple peel!

Fishy tasting eggs? Lordy, don't tell me I have something else to fret over before these girls even go outside to live! <sigh>
LOL Blooie.... You are a crack up.... Believe me you are right in there with long posts.... I tend to get involved in the story process myself. I love this front porch Because I cant seem to stay on topic for other threads.

As the saying goes, I wasn't born in Wyoming but I got here as fast as I could! Hubby was born in Sheridan, I was born in Iowa but raised in eastern South Dakota. We spent 26 years in the Navy, retired in South Dakota but he missed his mountains. So I figured after 26 years of following him from one end of the country to the other, what was one more move? So here we are, in Northern Wyoming, and here we'll stay. I hope you find all of your dreams at the end of the Wisconsin rainbow the way I found all of mine at the Wyoming end.
