The Front Porch Swing

I am bad..... very very very bad.

We went to TSC this evening.

Hubby said I could get 6 chicks.... and only 6.... So, I picked out 3 Ameracaunas (I know EE"S) and 3 Red pullets (probably golden comets). Then he walked off.... and the lady was like "I have these pullets from last week that I really have to get rid of.... Would you like them for $1? " MAJOR TEMPTATION!!!! I told her I had to ask my husband, but I could probably take them if she would drop them down to 50¢.... So, he came walking back up, and was like,"Yea that is too good of a deal to pass up. $3 chicks for 50¢..... I thought there was only 6, until she said she thought she had 15 more in the back but actually there were 20...... SO>>>>>> we came home with a total of 32 chicks! HOLY COW what was I thinking!!!!!???????? Honestly, I figured I would raise them off of lights and then sell them.

It is so hard being little! She is sooooo tired!!!!!

Zonked out! LOL.....

What was I thinking?!?!?! They sprayed them all with BlueKote because they were pecking each other.

Luckily, my aunt-in-law was planning on getting some chicks, so she came and got a bunch of them! This is her first time with chickens, and we figure that (this is going to sound awful) it is better to start with "cheap" chicks so if something happens they aren't losing a bunch of money. So, she came tonight and took 23 of them home. I'm hoping that she does well with them. So, that leaves me with my 3 Ams, 3 Reds, and 3 of the mystery pullets. They are white with a few scattered black spots. I am thinking maybe California whites. I probably should have waited, but its too late now! And HUBBY totally enabled! I may have to rethink getting some Sal.Favs and LF Cochins now...

I do know that I am getting some Cornish rocks in May to raise specifically for the freezer. The good thing with that is that you only have to raise them to about 10-12 weeks.

Congrats on the house WyoDreamer!!

Lindz, this is why I am afraid to go to TSC, I would come home with too many chicks!!

Prayers for all who need them.

Took my chickies outside, they had so much fun!! For some reason they loved my grandson's plastic slide.

And they were PULLETS!!!! Nothing like that ever happens to me. Well, I don't know. I'm such a newbie I don't know if the good sells will come. I know that I have $225 tied up in about 50 chicks coming in 2 batches in the next 6 wks. And they're not even the good stuff. We'll see. Anticipation!!!!

I have been reading the Cackle Surprise thread and they are getting some really good deals. Mostly pullets. It's usually a couple of ducks, turkeys and 40=50 chicks. For $60 or so shipping included. And you can specify no ducks, bantams etc. Usually they'll help you. Something to think about. ha

You will be in my prayers along with your son. That was a precious story! My Dad was in the Navy in WWII. I wish him well.

This sounds like the exact prayers I pray for my boys. Each one went off to the military and it was like a piece of my heart was wandering away from me and going off to places I could not go and protect it from getting hurt. Now they are home and I still pray this prayer for the each day because the world is fraught with evil and boys are in the thick of it where they work, go to school and who they hang out with.

I love your stories and can see myself in so many of them that it's like you are writing my heart song. Thank you for your stories on this porch!

Could ya'll keep me in your prayers as well ? I am dealing with something stressful that is work related and am hoping for a speedy, positive result to it all. I know with all your prayers, The Lord will make it happen. Thank you all so much and God bless

Prayed for you! Work stress is something for which I have often prayed...it can destroy one's God given peace if we let it and sometimes we cannot help it...it affects us whether we want it to or not.

Faerie, adorable looking chicks! They are really growing fast!

Glad you guys like the sign. Blessed be to those who are having troubles. I will certainly be asking for this http://herbalacademyofne.com/intermediate-herbal-course/ for a present when it is possible.
Darkangel, I hope you get your birthday present! Are you wanting to do this for yourself or run a business? I have wanted to 'dabble' in it, but wouldn't know where to start. Good Luck!!

Lisa :)
