Quote: When we were kids we used to ride our horses on the property next door. they had apple trees that hadnt been tended in years. The people let em drop to the ground. Wed snagged all the ones on foot already so someone got the bright idea of riding our horses over.... Ho boy those were some good apples.... then we needed to reach higher..... Hmmm. Imagine seeing three Tweenagers standing on thier saddles picking apples.... Our horses were angels.... because they knew they were going to "getsome"

Chocolate is not my favorite flavor, but sometimes I CRAVE it. It's always a surprise.
I've found when I'm craving chocolate, darker, saltier versions are more pleasing. Really gooey cocoa powder all-butter brownies, for example.
I think I'm going to try this recipe soon: http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2008/05/easy-delicious-and-yes-elegant-pots-de-creme/
It's for Pots de Creme made in the blender with hot coffee, chocolate chips, eggs and a pinch of salt, then refrigerate.
I'll have to break my household ban on chocolate chips for that, but it sounds so easy I have to see if it also tastes good.
Have you thought about removing his spurs? They grow back so its not a disfigurement.... Look on youtube there are a couple of demos on how to do it.I'm just trying to be consistent. I can't complain about other people making me do their research if I'm too lazy to do my own.![]()
I have 36 dozen chicken eggs and 3 dozen duck eggs in the egg refrigerator tonight. I have a big delivery to make later tonight. It will clean me out of duck eggs, but take only about half of the chicken eggs.
We got almost 90 eggs yesterday. I haven't counted today's yet. The weather has been gorgeous. The eggs were so clean.
Also found a breeding injury on one of my Delawares today -- they are the only three birds I'm "serious" about. A gash down one of the hen's side from his claws. Really hard to see in all her fluff. I've seen this kind of thing before, and this type of injury can easily heal very well and rather quickly. Chickens are amazing. But I had to separate her so it has a chance to close up, and boy is HE upset about it. He is quite the leader, and he only has two hens to fuss over. But he is a BIG boy. If only it weren't one of my breeders. The Delawares do NOT like to be handled.
Maybe if you guys pray for her ... It's just a chicken, but it would be nice if she healed quickly and we could let her out soon to restore flock harmony.
HA!! I wish you'd have been with me then! We could have gotten our apples AND evaded Old Man Van der Linde! Well, except for one teensy weesy detail. <confession> I'm absolutely terrified of horses. There, I said it.When we were kids we used to ride our horses on the property next door. they had apple trees that hadnt been tended in years. The people let em drop to the ground. Boy, congrats. It's been a real win-win day for you.Yippee Skippee! The kids just called and they are on their way home from Denver! The reports are all excellent! Kendra's renal ultrasounds were perfect and still no shunts needed! They said that the longer she goes without them the less likely she'll be to ever need them! Two and a half years and counting without them so far! Woot woot!! And they did get some minor adjustments done to her wheelchair so she'll be a lot more comfortable as she runs over our toes and gets away from us in the grocery store! She usually sticks pretty close until we get close to the cereal aisle! Then it's every man for himself!
Kendra's has had a busy week. She and her mom left on Sunday the 2nd for her appointment with the Shriners' Hospital in Salt Lake. Thought they were going to do release surgery on her ankles when the casts came off her legs, but the doctor was pretty happy with the amount of correction they got this time so they were happy to put that off. They'd like her to be a little older before they do that in preparation for later surgery to correct the degree of torque in her shin bones. Prosthetics put her newly fitted AFO's on and sent her on her way until June. They got home from Salt Lake on Tuesday (4th), then packed up the van and and the whole family headed for Denver on Saturday the 8th. Kendra's appointments were on Monday and Tuesday. Katie also had her repeat EEG done on Monday, so Mom had Kendra at the Spina Bifida clinics and Dad had Katie at Neurology imaging. Whew! I thought my life was busy! But on Sunday they took the girls to the museum there, so it wasn't all medical. There was also a surprise meal at Chucky Cheese's, so I imagine that took some of the apprehension out for both of the girls. Kendra and Jen are really accumulating the frequent fBoylyer miles, since when Kenny can't go with them she flies to Denver rather than drive, and she and Kendra fly to Salt Lake for every appointment there. Katie only goes in every two years.
I get to take care of grandson Evan while the kids are gone, because usually Kenny and Jenny are his sitters when his mom works. Love having him here too! So it's been a good week here at Oleo Acres! I'm so smiley I'm jest wiggling all over!!! Better make room for me on that ice cream bucket!
No, you're not the only one. I wouldn't say that I don't like chocolate but it is far from the top of my list of favorite things.
In the beginning I had 40 guinea Keets. Raised them up till they had feathers but were still Bacon Heads. I got them out to the coop with a little extra element protection.... Something got in and killed about half..... I patched holes that I didnt know existed....I'm just trying to be consistent. I can't complain about other people making me do their research if I'm too lazy to do my own.![]()
