The Front Porch Swing

We could call it lazy flan instead. Or sweet steamed eggs? It really is yummy. It reminds me of super delicious ice cream, but I like to eat it warm instead of chilled.

What's not to like. Sugar, eggs and cream. Delish

You kiddin'?  I'd put on a feed for you!  Let me know your general route and I'll show how to get to our place...we are only 20 mi. off I-77.  :frow    I feel that kinship as well, with many of my sisters in Christ here.  It's like discovering a whole other family that I've been missing all my life.

When y'all get together make sure you let the rest of us know and well bring some food and catch up!!

I am about ready to peck these little white chicks in the head (ok, not really but UGH!)!!!! They keep pecking just one, until it is bloody! First its butt, then the shoulder parts of its wings, then its neck.... I pretty much slathered the whole chick in Nustock.... I'm not sure what else to do... They have plenty of room in the brooder, so I am not sure why they keep doing it.....Suggestions?

Its been windy and chilly around here. I've heard birds singing, but no peepers yet. I'm praying for the weather to break. This back and forth is driving me and the kids crazy! Come on spring, We MISS YOU!

Yippee Skippee! The kids just called and they are on their way home from Denver! The reports are all excellent! Kendra's renal ultrasounds were perfect and still no shunts needed! They said that the longer she goes without them the less likely she'll be to ever need them! Two and a half years and counting without them so far! Woot woot!! And they did get some minor adjustments done to her wheelchair so she'll be a lot more comfortable as she runs over our toes and gets away from us in the grocery store! She usually sticks pretty close until we get close to the cereal aisle! Then it's every man for himself!

Kendra has had a busy week. She and her mom left on Sunday the 2nd for her appointment with the Shriners' Hospital in Salt Lake. Thought they were going to do release surgery on her ankles when the casts came off her legs, but the doctor was pretty happy with the amount of correction they got this time so they were happy to put that off. They'd like her to be a little older before they do that in preparation for later surgery to correct the degree of torque in her shin bones. Prosthetics put her newly fitted AFO's on and sent her on her way until June. They got home from Salt Lake on Tuesday (4th), then packed up the van and and the whole family headed for Denver on Saturday the 8th. Kendra's appointments were on Monday and Tuesday. Katie also had her repeat EEG done on Monday, so Mom had Kendra at the Spina Bifida clinics and Dad had Katie at Neurology imaging. Whew! I thought my life was busy! But on Sunday they took the girls to the museum there, so it wasn't all medical. There was also a surprise meal at Chucky Cheese's, so I imagine that took some of the apprehension out for both of the girls. Kendra and Jen are really accumulating the frequent flyer miles, since when Kenny can't go with them she flies to Denver rather than drive, and she and Kendra fly to Salt Lake for every appointment there. Katie only goes in every two years.

I get to take care of grandson Evan while the kids are gone, because usually Kenny and Jenny are his sitters when his mom works. Love having him here too! So it's been a good week here at Oleo Acres! I'm so smiley I'm jest wiggling all over!!! Better make room for me on that ice cream bucket!

He is so very good. Pass that woman the ice cream!
With strawberries and nuts, please..... am I the only woman on the planet who does NOT like chocolate? Never have! Um, do I have to turn in my girly dues card? We are so blessed - always have been! Frankly I had a few doubts when Austin died. But the same month that happened, Jamie called to tell me he and Rachel were expecting their first baby. Who am I to question?

No, you're not the only one. I wouldn't say that I don't like chocolate but it is far from the top of my list of favorite things.

Bwhaahahahaha..... Thats gotto be bad.....

deb

Oh deb, you have no idea. It sounded doable on paper. It really did. People rave about this stuff on "Paleo" websites.

Roast a couple bananas and use that in place of the sugar. Use coconut milk in place of the eggs. I love roasted bananas in mashed sweet potatoes; and I love coconut milk in curry.

It smells good.

It looks bad.

It tastes worse.

The texture is unmentionable.

Kinda reminded me of the experience of carob cookies whenever someone pushes those on me as "so much better" than "all that nasty chocolate." Once you get it in your mouth you instinctively look for somewhere else to put it. And have to stop yourself from spitting at the chef.

And I am the furthest thing ever from a picky eater. Furthest. Thing. Ever.

Take it inside in a shoebox. Shine a 60 watt bulb on it for a few days. Anything to keep it from being eaten. If you lose it, you lose it. I bought 10 featherdusters to put in my brooder when it's time. Have you got one? The light will keep the feathers warm. Just a thought.

Chocolate is not my favorite flavor, but sometimes I CRAVE it. It's always a surprise.

I've found when I'm craving chocolate, darker, saltier versions are more pleasing. Really gooey cocoa powder all-butter brownies, for example.

I think I'm going to try this recipe soon: http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2008/05/easy-delicious-and-yes-elegant-pots-de-creme/
It's for Pots de Creme made in the blender with hot coffee, chocolate chips, eggs and a pinch of salt, then refrigerate.

I'll have to break my household ban on chocolate chips for that, but it sounds so easy I have to see if it also tastes good.
