The Front Porch Swing

So here I am, playing catch-up on the porch. I've made just about the entire free world mad at me about the cats. Unrest, mayhem, fury - my work there is done. Loved the skunk herder story! What an imagination! I'm sorry that a chick was lost. I agree that usually nature knows better than we do what's going on. I just wish the remedies weren't always so harsh. I read all the posts, but I have the hardest time getting comments in there because I don't know how to do that thingy where you can quote a few posts at one time and then reply to each of them in one comment. I'm a nice lady (despite what the people in the cats thread think - just not the brightest crayon in the box!
Blooie is right, she certainly warmed that conversation up! And I agree with her she just said it better than I could have. People just don't get it. If I wanted a cat in my yard, I would put my cat out there. I left my window rolled down in my car yesterday afternoon. Somebody's cat climbed in a ripped a hole in the bag of dog food in the back seat. Of course I didn't realize it until I hefted the bag out of the car. It ripped in half, $25 worth of dog food in the mud!!! The trap is set - one less cat in the neighborhood :)

That's easy....you choose the "multiple" button at the bottom of the post next to the "quote" button on all the posts you want to quote. On the last one in your choices, after pressing multiple, press quote right afterward and they should all appear in your reply box in the order in which you chose them. (I had to be told too!

What did you say about cats that ticked people off....I have a way of ticking people off about pets in my posts too so I'm curious.

Well, DH stopped by the place today on his way up to see my parents. He sent this picture - a building that he didn't see on the initial tour. He asked I knew what it could be.
You guys have any ideas? It is the farthest out from the house, back behind the barn.

It looks like it is partially underground, he says the earth is kinda mounded up around it.
He is hoping it is a root cellar because he knows I would like to have one for storing garden and orchard produce. Maybe that is a stairway on the front?

Cellars are normally closer to the house. What it could be is a pump house for the well...they all sort of look that around here and they are normally located further from the house than a cellar. It's a place to keep your pump insulated, so you can do repairs to it and possibly even holds your pressure tank.

And what is so bad about being a hermit is I taught my girls to do the same thing. Call before you come. Aimee married Clint 13 yrs ago (2nd for each) and 2 weeks later on Saturday morning her MIL came unannounced and brought a total stranger to see "Clints new bride and home" then proceeded to walk her through the whole house. Aimee was livid because she had a very demanding office job and did her cleaning on Sat's. She sent the message by Clint to please don't come without calling and the MIL was so insulted that she didn't come back for two years. This is the lady that doesn't get along with Aimee but I went to her Christmas party and totally bonded with her. Aimee was not amused.

She has a long long memory.

Edited for content: One more thing and I'll shut up I found the best site out there called http://www.recipegoldmine.com
The best of everything, cooking, pet treats, household cleaning. check it out.

In case anyone missed it, the recipegoldmine.com site is so fantastic. Dozens and I mean dozens of recipes with Nutella. There must me a thousand different kinds of food groups and recipes. I think I'll keep it pulled up constantly just for enjoyment.

I'd worked out in the public since I was 14 yrs old and that was after living back in the woods in a log cabin..off grid...so living all those work years in the public, smiling when you don't feel like it, at the most impossible people, in the worst situations.  When I would get home it was the one place where I didn't have to pretend to smile, make conversation, be polite, have my hair groomed and my clothes clean of spots....home is my haven away from shallow social situations that I have to act my way through without getting the high pay of an actress.

Home is where you don't have to be anything but yourself and get to fellowship with only those you want to be with...I hold that dear and hug it to my chest.  Everyone needs a hole to crawl into and pull in behind them and home is like that for me.  No way I'm going to let the world intrude on that unless I want it to!

Now, I'll open the door in the hot second to help stranded motorists, people needing to use the phone, etc. because I've been there and know how it feels, but people who I know casually, but who don't really know me well enough to call ahead?  Nope.

I have a small handful of people who I don't mind seeing me with no make-up and my hair a mess, standing in my work clothes with dirt on my face and hands...a very small handful and most of them are family.

I work at WAL~MART and I agree being nice to nasty people is not one of my strong points!!! Smiling at nasty-nice people makes my face HURT :(

Any body that comes to my house will see me dirty from working, hair uncombed, muddy boots whatever. Life is too short for unannounced visitors to expect me to entertain them.

And if I am in the middle of a project and need something from town, I was off the worst of the grime, pullmy hair into a pony tail and put on my cleanest barn shoes and off I go. My co-workers have seen me pretty dirty with farm dirt!

Hi! I am from Kansas, known lately as the weird weather state! I have lived in Washington, and love the Pacific Northwest, too, but Kansas has my heart. Yesterday it was 72, and this morning the wind chill is 12. Freaky!

I have a small, pampered flock, and am big on recycling and repurposing. I would love to be better at DIY, but I squeak by on simple things!

Welcome to the Front Porch!!! Pull up a hay bale or sit on the railing. We have tea, sweet and unsweetened....what is your preference? I think Triple willow finished off the Cinnamon Rolls. We are waiting on somebody to bake something else.

That gorgeous horse in the corral is Katee and the two dogs are Jake and Boots.

I think it could be a root cellar, but I also like Bee's idea of a pump house. Maybe they used it to make sausage, etc (smoke house)?

When it came to unexpected visitors, Ma had it down! She's see a car pull up, whip out the vacuum cleaner and put it in the middle of the living room, grab a clean diaper from one of the stacks, pinch her cheeks to make them a little red, and then tell us to let whoever it was in. When they got inside, she'd put down the diaper, and say, "Boy, am I glad to see you! I've been at it all morning (or afternoon, whichever it was) and I could use a coffee break." It was a win-win for all! The guests felt that they were always welcome at our house and Ma saved face by pretending she was working at the mess, even if she was still in her housecoat and slippers!

Last week, I was watering the lawn and putting out large hoses to water the front when I heard a happy "Hi!" from the driveway. It was my cousin and there I was, dripping wet from being sprayed with water, hair a mess, pant legs rolled up to reveal unshaven legs.

To be fair, it is still winter. I'm allowed to grow my hair however I dang well please. But still, it's weird when your male cousin comes around and sees you looking like a mess, haha! He proceeded to enter the house, go to the backyard to take a peek at the chickens and ask me questions (he chased a frizzle, which was hilarious 'cause he's a city boy through-and-through). I love him, but I was totally not expecting him to come by. If he was down in the Rio Grande Valley more often, I'd probably tell him to call first, but he's from Austin and I don't see him much. Next time, though, I'll probably find a way to distract him. He's an animal lover, so I think handing him a chick will have him entranced, haha!

Yeah, how did it go? By the way, I never shave my legs in winter. Acts like Velcro and keeps my socks up.
