Linda, watch out if you see one of these in your brooder!!
Look! It's Jane...no, wait, it's Charlie....or is that Rose? Nope, definitely Jane!

 Already prayed! :hugs Get well, good woman! Everyone seems to be getting sick right now...that yearly seasonal weather changes that tend to bring on this crud. Just found out my great niece is very ill and in the hospital with a high fever and they don't know why. Poor Lindz and her whole family, Blooie isn't feeling good and now you. That does it...I just made a big pot of chicken soup today and am setting it up on the porch for all you sickies, along with some 7 Up and saltines. Okay...who took my rectal thermometer?
Thanks for the soup and 7 Up. Feeling better already soooo the other thing won't be necessary thanks just the same.

Hey, I'm in a great mood tonight despite the way the day started. First, earlier this evening Kendra pulled herself up and stood at the couch. She's done that before, but not since this last set of casts came off! Woohoo!

Then my sister/best friend Linda called. She's finally been cleared medically for her kidney transplant! All of us tested immediately when she first got sick, but only one of us was a close enough match to go on to the more advanced testing - my sister Bev. She's been losing weight ever since she found out that was the only thing keeping her from going on with more in depth testing for markers - whatever that means. She's been doing fantastic. Doctors told her there was no point in further match tests until she lost at least 75, preferably 100 pounds because being obese it was too risky for her to have only one kidney, plus the surgery would be too hard on her. In the meantime, Linda's been doing dialysis three times a week, and until her heart and vascular issues were better she was very low on the list. The last test left for Linda was her colonoscopy, which they had to wait on because of her blood thinners and such. They finally did that on Friday and she got the word today at dialysis. YIPPEEEEEE!!!!!

So all in all, despite a hiccup early in the day and slightly off tasting thermometer it's been a wonderful day! Um, I feel a story coming on...

Are ya sure?  I have castor oil and I'm not afraid to use it!  :old

No it's the other end that's stopped up.

I tried castor oil once about 33 years ago. I was 3 weeks past due with our oldest daughter and I was disperate so I drake a whole bottle. Worked too. After several trips to the restroom I went into labor and two hours latter we were the proud parents of a little girl.

Darn smart phone .... Changes the spelling to what IT thinks.

Actually he does.  He has 16 acres to patrol....and that is what he does.  During the day he stays around the house with the chickens, and at night after they have gone to bed he stands watch.  Right at nightfall he makes his rounds around the perimeter.  The neighbors see him walking the perimeter at the top of the hill, then he turns and walks down along the road to the driveway, then comes back to the house.  He doesn't like visitors, except for the Schwann's delivery man.....LOL.    His hearing is incredible.  He dozes during the day, but if a large bird.....except for geese....flies over, he is up, chasing them off.  During the summer he get under bushes with the chickens to stay cool.  There is one place he will not let the chickens go, though....and that is the front porch where he gets fed because they steal his food....LOL.  One night he was having a fit barking.....and he had a possum cornered, and Greg shot it.  Another night my daughter came home from school and he was laying in the driveway with a possum....this one wasn't dead, so I finished it off with my .22.  I truly think he has kept my chickens from falling victim to predators.  My Aussie has actually followed his lead. She keeps watch over the birds in her area, and stands vigil at night.  We have two sectors, if you will.  Ben has full run, and Kodi has a designated area, which includes the barn.

You have to keep in mind though that we didn't get him until he was 3, so he was pretty settled.  He is 5 now.  I have heard that the LGD's really come into their own between 2 and 3.....but I can speak to that since we didn't have him during that time.

Ben and Kodi both sound like a good ones. I'm sure it is a relief to have both your dogs around so you don't have to worry about all the critters wanting to eat your chickens. I have to say, even though I can't trust my dogs with my birds, they have kept everything ran off (except stray dogs). Especially at night they are watching and barking. One just loves to bark but if the other barks there is something to bark at. If they weren't out there I would have all kinds of critters trying to eat my birds. Does Ben get in the road?
